If you guys would of designed your bike racks properly we wouldn’t need to buy a freaking adapter!! Because we didn’t pay enough for the bike rack eh?

The Thule Frame Adapter is the perfect fit for a family ride in any location. With 4 different sized bikes, our bike rack was really cramped and we had to put one in the trunk. The adapter allows us to fit all 4 bikes on the back comfortably without a scratch. Now I feel confident driving long distances without a worry.

This product really deserves 2 reviews. A positive and a negative and this really reflects on all bike frame adapters and not just Thule's. If you're looking to purchase a replacement bike rack or are a first time buyer. Do yourself a favour and get yourself set up with a Platform hitch rack or a set of roof mounted carriers they are a much more user friendly way of hauling your bikes around. The Frame adapter (regardless of brand) will work to get your bike mounted on a hanging style rack but it isn't an ideal solution and I would recommend avoiding the use of it where possible. For people who own a pre-existing hanging style bike rack this will help get your tough to fit bike on the road without having to purchase a completely new rack. However well the product works it relies on compatibility with your bike. The way this item installs is by sitting under your seat and under your handle bars, different seats vary so all this is trying to do fit around your seat stem. Some seats can sit weird or you'll have unwanted pressure or pinch points on the seat itself. The frame adapter is also effected by the height of the seat as well. The higher your seat is raised the lower your bike will hang. This means your bike tires may be 2inches off the ground if you have a low ground clearance vehicle like a car or mini van because your seat is high. You'll need to adjust your seat post down to raise the bike up. Your bike rack will hold the bike frame in place but there is nothing holding your actual bike. So yes it will bounce and move around, items like the safety strap which are included with Thule hanging bike racks will help reduce the movement but not eliminate it. This can lead to additional marring of the frame or damage to the carrier. All in all it is a good if not only solution for mounting an odd framed bike to a hanging style bike rack you already own. It 100% is still better than jamming your bike in the trunk of your vehicle.

The bike sways horribly once on the rack. No way to stop the adapter from swaying. The pedals will destroy your vehicle.

I’ve used this a couple times after borrowing a friends, so there is definitely better adapters on the market and for less. Bike swings a bunch off the frame.

It works fine, easy to use. Glad I made the purchase, it'll save me the cost of purchasing a different rack.

Products works great. It will not fit around a gyro neck but I just put it around the handle bar instead.

I recently purchased Thule 2 Bike, Hitch Mounted, Bike Rack for my Navigator. This is to transport my Luna E Bike and wife's mountain bike. I found that the battery on the E Bike is in the way of the bike rack. Either I had to remove the battery (pain in the neck and time consuming) or get the 982 XT. The unit works flawlessly. It is extremely well made out of high quality materials. I especially like the way the hook ends are coated in rubber to protect the bike from damage and carry the bike silently with no rattles. The locking mechanisms are fast and secure and made of non rusting metals.

For the second time I messed up our locking mechanism on the swing away bike rack because it wasn't secured when in the down position and it dragged on the ground and ruined the ability to lock. I was so thankful to be able to get a replacement part, now with better engineering so that it was retractable. My local rack store installed it and the additional replacement racking straps for super cheap and now our rack is back in full functioning order!

Holds the bikes very securely without having to use additional straps or ropes. Very easy to connect and disconnect.

If the salesmen did not recommend this to me I would have never been able to take my bike to all of the places I go... Thank you
