Great Driver! Great Price!

After a couple visits and testing multiple driver head and shift combinations I chose the Titleist TS4. Maybe I should say it chose me. So far so good on the golf course.

Solid Bat

Great driver! Compared to the 913 D3 the ball goes further. Very clean look. Big improvement. Low spin.

The Driver Is Excellent!

So a TL;DR as a prologue would be: I’m giving the driver AND shaft 5 stars! It was just Dick’s’ installation of the shaft that made me irritated enough to knock off two stars off my rating. Anyway, they talk about losing some forgiveness when you shift the center of gravity forward, but I only noticed that a bit. I did buy a set of “RoyMade” TS2/TS4 weights from Amazon, so the -2G weight ended up settling down the face for me nicely. I got the nice long trajectory I love, and this HZRDUS Yellow Smoke makes it really easy to swing an XS (6.5) flex shaft, being that it’s counter-weighted. The misalignment of the shaft to the head is pretty frustrating, because I knew I was either going to stick with A1 or just drop 0.75 off the loft by going to D1 (effective loft would be 7.75); either way, I knew which of the four orientations the shaft would be in, and being just slightly out of alignment, I can see some yellow from the label peeking up at me - and that’s kinda distracting. And if it had been PUREed that would’ve defeated the purpose, by the way. Not sure if Project X PUREs all their shafts or not. Anyway, the driver is excellent, a very workable, long, classic player’s driver!

Long And Low

Previously had the 913 D3 with a 18 gram weight and Diamana 72 gram X-stuff shaft. Played a few rounds with the TS4 and it is fantastic. The ball flight is considerably more penetrating for me instead of ballooning up with a bunch of back spin. The 60 gram Smoke shaft is light enough to give me the club head feel and awareness I prefer without putting in a heavier weight. I’ve gained 10 - 15 yds but I think it has more to do with optimizing my ball flight and decreasing my backspin than anything. It has a noticeably different sound too. More of a low pitched “thwack” than the higher pitched tick I was accustomed to. It sets up and sounds like the 975 D from 20 years ago in my opinion.
