I’ve been using the FINIS “Original Swimmer’s Snorkel” for several years with no problems until the plastic connection for the head strap to the center-mount broke. Since it was clear plastic, it disappeared forever in the deepest depth of the swimming pool. I was going to buy another FINIS, but my local DICK’S store only sold the TYR 2.0 Ultralite Snorkel. I was familiar with TYR swim products so I decided to buy it. The FINIS and the TYR are similar in design. The TYR is “ultralite” compared to the FINIS, but I’m not too sure of its lightweight benefits, if any. The TYR has two detachable cardio caps to restrict the oxygen flow. The “blue” cap would be like sucking air through a large straw. I use the larger “green” cap. There is also the option of not using any of the cardio caps for more oxygen flow. As with a swim goggle, getting the head strap to fit securely and comfortably took some adjustment on my first use. You want it to be tight, but not too tight. The only noticeable difference between the FINIS and TYR are the head straps. The FINIS uses a head strap similar to those used on swim masks. The TYR head strap is a rubber-like cord that I suspect will break or snap from fatigue (exposure to chlorine, sun, and tension pulling over the head). I don’t know how easy, or if it’s possible, to replace the TYR head strap; but I’m already thinking about it.
