This tripod is frustrating and a terrible design. I bought this to replace another Vortex tripod I lost that was in the same price range and this was supposedly the replacement as per Vortex. This one is garbage.

Back Country Hunts Must Have
This tripod has been absolutely flawless and is light weight. The only draw back I could see is the height if you are taller and want to stand. I used it with a Viper spotting scope and mostly sit while glassing. I’m 5’11’’ and have no issues standing but that is close to the limit. As far as the legs go, if you turn the locking mechanism the wrong direction they are a bear but that is totally user error. I have done it once but was able to feel it by turning it back the correct direct. Ours get used about 300 days a year at home and 14 days on western hunts.

Awesome Tripod
Great weight and good price combines yo make this a very high qauilty tripod. I have used this tripod on many extended Alaskan back country trips. From sheep to caribou hunts it has always performed well. I highly recommend this tripod.

Good Idea Horrible Product
Bought this tripod for a once in a lifetime sheep hunt and the locking mechanism completely locked up on day 1 of glassing and one leg would not lock. Very disappointed especially on a once in a lifetime hunt 😡 will be hard to ever trust again on a hunt and will have it fixed and try to sell to buy a Tricer or more reliable tripod.

Light, Quick, Compact
Im a big game guide in the state of Utah so a reliable tripod is important. As others have stated I had the issue of one of the twist locks breaking on my first summit. Warranty got me a new one straight away and after 100 miles of back country through Utah, Colorado, and Alberta… it was worked very well. Giving it 4 stars as I had similar troubles with the first one, but vortex warranty is hard to beat and they took great care of me.
