Love The Extendable Sling And Thumb Loop

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Despite the lack of the thumb loop, I'm a fan of DMM cams, so when I found out the new friends had a thumb loop and the extendable sling, I was excited! This design is also superior to DMM's where the tab can get caught in end of the pedestal (and does not inspire confidence) if you grab the wrong end of the sling when extending it.

Love It, But Gets Dirty Quick…

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My rack consists of a mix of camalots, friends, mastercams, and flexcams. I honestly love them all for different reasons, but for the friends it is the very smooth trigger action and extendable sling (use almost every placement). One potential negative I’ve noticed is that the friends get dirty faster than any of my other cams and the springs seem to just attract dirt and grime, and I find myself cleaning and lubing them about twice as often as the rest of my rack. I don’t mind this much, as I enjoy gear maintenance, but those who find this annoying mind find this to be a bigger deal.

Huge And Awesome

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just moved near the Wichita Mountains recently and I couldn’t be any happier with this cam! Super easy to use, extendable sing is great and fits in the off width cracks perfectly that seem to be everywhere now!

Perfecto

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Awesome town, cam me up baby. Smooth action and looks good. Great for building desert sets with BD cams because of the coordinating colors. Yeah

Great Product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I decided that after 25 years of use I would retire my ridged stem friends. When the box arrived I picked it up and thought to myself this is to light, they must have shipped the wrong item. I love the weight, range of motion and the new sling length. I would recommend this product to anyone..

Best Midsized Cam On The Market

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Other brands might be more popular but these cams are becoming the new gold standard from larger pieces. If your climbing soft stone you'll love these - they don't chip sandstone in bigger falls. The only down side is the head size and width. This is great if your climbing straight in splitters but can be problematic if you have smaller pods to contend with. When climbing in places like the Black Canyon I pair these (.4 and .5 range) with BD X4's or Totems which have much narrower head withs and smaller lobes so that you are covered. Oh yeah and the extendable sling is great.

Truly Nice, Well Made Cams.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The wider lobes, uncommonly smooth action and detailed machining of these Wildcountrys definitely outclass and theoretically outperform what I was using before; especially on softer rock. I’m very happy to have these!

Friends

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Similar to BLack diamond camalot C4. Really good hold have not walked on me to much. So far after a month and new to trad climbing. Light weight. Only go up to size 4 but much cheaper.

Easy To Use Cam

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used the #2, #3, and #4 Wild Country Friends for a few leads. They are my go to CAM's for larger sizes. Reasons I chose and use these cams is the built in sling ad double axle and larger range of CAM placement. The actuation is smooth, easy to control when placing and removing. I mostly use them in granite and sandstone cracks where I climb. Haven't tried the smaller ones as I have a set of Metolius which I like for the in between sizes.

My Favorite Cams

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got these initially because they were on sale to add to my trad rack that has mostly C4 cams. However, they are AWESOME. The look isn't as future-cool as the newly designed cams from others, but still they operate so smoothly, have a really solid placement range, and don't seem to walk that much. The favorite part for me without a doubt is the extendible sling. It doesn't add a huge amount of length, but there are certainly many instances where that extension can keep you from using a draw on a route. if you need an alpine, obviously you'll need an alpine. Only note is that I would not recommend the larger friend sizes (4-6) given how other cams now have the retractable latch and are lighter. Those bigger sizes it really starts to make a difference.

The Cadillac Of Cams

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There isn't much else to say about these guys other than that they work, they're confidence inspiring and they feel premium. I really can't say enough about the build quality of these - they're just really smooth and feel really burly. The only issue I'd say would be re-racking the sling if it's been extended. I haven't quite figured out how to do that efficiently, but if you can get passed that these cams are totally worth it. Also worth noting that you don't have to extend them, they can be used just like BDs cams. I appreciate the slightly different sizing (especially in the #2) from BD - so they make a great set to double with.

I Dig It

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] im really just a sport climber that pretends to trad on occasion. but for what it's worth im digging these over Camelots in general when climbing at seneca and annapolis rocks. grab a couple and see what you think.

Good Quality And Better Price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After hearing plenty of good things about WC Friends I decided to continue building up my rack with them instead of Camalots. The trigger action might not be as smooth but it is pretty smooth enough, some sizes more than others. The light weight is great and with all the good sales this season I have paid way less for them than for Camalots. They also has some improvements over the camalots that I am yet to test out enough to comment on just yet but I am already pleased enough to recommend.

Imo

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A good take on the BD Camalot. Dig the hollow axles but you gotta clean ‘em. The extendable sling is a nice feature but only gives you a few extra inches. Nothing earth-shattering here. Slightly lighter than Camalots but not really noticeable.
