Angler Kayaks vs. Recreational Kayaks
If you plan to use your kayak for lots of fishing, consider a Field & Stream angler kayak. Angler kayaks are specifically designed to make fishing more convenient and enjoyable, as they feature rod holders and built-in tackle storage. Most fishing kayaks are built for stability to provide sure-footing when casting and landing your catch.
If you’re new to paddling or want a more casual experience, a Field & Stream recreational kayak is a great choice. They are best suited for calm water and offer added stability.
Sit-In vs. Sit-On-Top Kayaks
Sit-on-top kayaks are a great option for beginners and kids. You can get in and out with ease, and their wider design provides added stability. However, be aware that sit-on-top kayaks provide little protection from the elements, which can be uncomfortable in chilly conditions.
Sit-in kayaks do provide protection for your lower body, shielding you from splashes and wind, but entering and exiting is more challenging compared to sit-on-top models. It can also be more difficult to recover after flipping a sit-in as it will likely fill with water.
If you’re an experienced paddler or you’re serious about learning, a sit-in kayak is a great choice. But for new paddlers, kids and those just looking for a relaxing ride on the water, sit-on-top kayaks are the way to go.
