Before making your selection, find what to look for in a pair of women's boots.
If you're an avid hiker or need to clear the driveway of snow, waterproof boots are your best option. Materials like rubber and full-grain leather are naturally waterproof, while suede and knits can be treated to seal out moisture.
Duck boots with an extended shaft help block out snow, while hiking boots with a gusseted tongue protect against dirt and debris. For breathability, try split-grain leather boots, which are paired with nylon for a lighter feel.
The outsole of your boot is typically made of rubber. Casual boots have an outsole pattern designed to aid in traction. Work, hunting and winter boots may come with lugs, which make it easier to trek through mud and snow.
The midsole of your boot should cushion and comfort. Look for a responsive material, like EVA.
