The color “ Amber ” is more of a nice Autumnal rust color than orange. It looks really nice with the black accents. The chest pocket is super roomy and easy to access. Fit: I am 5'11 and 190 pounds, wear XL for shirts and sweaters, but L for these types of jackets and the L fit me well in this one. Warmth: I have used it in up to- 10C and it has kept me warm at that temp with only a t- shirt below. Might be too warm for anything above 0C- 5C for me. If it can keep me warm up to- 20C with a thin layer underneath it will have good range. Style: looks very good. Amber is a bit darker than I expected, which is welcomed in my case. Does not look orange at all. Weight/design: it is very lightweight, and does not look puffy. Would have appreciated one or two pockets on the inside. Easy to move around in, so will be good for winter activities. Overall, highly recommend this if you are looking for a jacket to put between the times you need a full winter parka and your spring jacket, this will hold a good place in that spot as it does seem to be quite versatile temp wise. I get a feeling it will also reduce my use of the full winter parka by a bit.

If you wear some relatively thick undergarments, you can get around comfortably in some pretty cold weather while wearing this jacket. And when you zip up, the zipper goes into a small pocket. It keeps your neck from being irritated by the zipper. Very good design.

But the biggest selling point for me with this jacket is its' versatility. I am easily kept warm in New York winter with the full coat, but on days when it's milder, I love that I can easily just take off the blue outer shell and only use the inner piece-- which is also a great stand alone jacket. It fits true to size and looks like how it does on the website. I 'm 5' 3 '' and 135 lbs and bought a Medium and it fits great. Not oversized or too tight anywhere. But it is form fitting. So if you like a baggier look and feel, I 'd go up a size. The quality of material and the zippers is excellent, and it's really easy to put the jacket back together if you choose to separate the layers. The only things that would make this jacket better for me is if there was a hood for the rain/snow, although the high neck helps a lot. Aside from that I wish the zippers did n't zip from the bottom up in case something falls out; but to be fair, nothing has fallen out before.

Seam tape is a bit flashy- I would have probably preferred black, matte seam tape as well ideally. No DWR is a huge positive( both in terms of chemical use, and in terms of maintenance since no need to reapply). I 'd love to see the outer material in high performance footwear for the same benefits and performance. The only issue for me is that even the small fit is a bit baggy on its own- perhaps when layering in cold weather the fit will work better. I can say with certainty there is no other breathable rain jacket that will keep you as dry as one made with Columbia's Outdry. All other jackets suffer from the same problem. Eventually the outer fabric will wet out and water will wick in through the hood and cuffs leaving you wet and uncomfortable. Not so with Outdry. This stuff is amazing. I also like the impermeable look, taped outside seams and all. It makes a statement you are serious about the time you spend outdoors and it delivers. Although the jacket runs large, Columbia's sizing tool did put me into the right size for my frame.

Dry in PDX
[ Live in the PNW and have gone through a handful of rain jackets from cheap to expensive and new until worn out. This is my first with a solid barrier versus various coatings( probably toxix PFAS). Can not say this jacket doesn ’ t have them, but it seems much more robust and the slighly soft inside is a big improvement over the sticky plastic laters of past jackets. Time will tell. But so far excellent performance, good fit and seems like it will last a bit longer than average.
