Have used the canoe(s) to fish the upper- James for many years. Wanted something I could throw onto my shoulders to carry, or load onto my SUV individually( when my youngest was 6). We eventually were caught in a hydraulic and the canoe was destroyed, but I bought a replacement a week later. Have done solo river camping trips, but I use a 16 footer with a 2nd person. The seat- backs are a must since I am 6' 5 '', and now my oldest is 275 so the canoe can handle 500+ lbs. Yes the bottom is flat, but we run class 2's, plus drag it over many rocks in the riffles.

I purchased an Old Town Saranac 146 for lake fishing with my daughter. It was a perfect canoe for the two of us, with plenty of room for gear and refreshments. I added a small removable outrigger where I mounted a small electric trolling motor to help hold our position in the lake on windy days. When I fish alone, I use the third seat as my station to keep the canoe flat. I added a comfortable removable swivel seat at that center station for those days when I fish alone. The canoe is light enough for me to single handedly lift up on my SUV roof rack for trips away from home. All in all, this is an excellent vessel, good quality and well made to which I look forward to many years of use.

The saranac 146 is a nice size boat for 2 people and hunting gear. After getting home with it, I found the front cap to be loose from several rivets that had failed. I fixed it by installing bolts and nuts... just wanted it to be acknowledged. The adjustable back rest are really great and useful and the seats are comfortable. The 146 is light enough to be handled with ease by one person.

Well thought out survival design. I typically do n't care for serrations; but on this particular knife they only use up a very small portion of a very large cutting surface. There's still ample regular edge for fine cutting, and the small serrated section for tough, problematic materials; so that was well designed. And of course there's also the sawback feature along the spine, and the hammer pommel. A finger guard was a necessity, and the abbreviated hook at the pommel end helps generate torque when chopping while helping prevent the knife from flying out of the hand while doing so. Very versatile knife; if you found yourself out in the sticks for any considerable length of time, you could still accomplish a great deal with this tool at your disposal.

I was gifted this knife about 6 years ago, used it almost daily, and it had never disappointed me. Unfortunately, I lost it a little while ago, and I have n't been able to find another one to compare, so I 'm back to buy another one. It was n't bulky in any of my pocket's( including women's shallow jean pockets), and had a sturdy enough clip to stay in place without slipping out accidentally. It was stiff to open one- handed, but I personally enjoyed that so it did n't come open in my bag or pants, and the blade stayed sharp no matter what kind of work I was using it for. I whole- heartedly recommend this knife.

Though I read that some thought the snarl's blade was too thick and not sharp, I liked the thickness and thought that the blade was very sharp. I was concerned before I got the knife that without a small guard extending out in front of your middle finger like the Brous Silent Stalker that there might be a chance that your middle finger might come in contact with the blade, but after feeling how the blade is locked into your fingers I no longer concerned about that. Would recommend if you want some dedicated throwing knives you can use that aren ’ t shaped like a teardrop. I gave 5 stars but would give 4. 5 if I could. Only because I am being a picky baby on this one. It would be cool if there was a guide on re- wrapping the handle as the cord does come loose after a few throws. Not such a big deal as you can still throw fine without the cord.
