The 2 side pockets give you even more packing space but the 30 cans actually fit inside the main body of the pack. The pack is inner lined with insulation and is padded. The new Frontier Ultralight Cook set is a brilliant redesign in the Sea to Summit line up. As an alpine climber, I obsess over both weight and space savings and this new cook set checks both boxes. I paired the cook set with a jet boil Mighty Moe and compared it to my `` go to '' MSR reactor kit with Sea to Summit cup and bowl. The Frontier Ultralight cook set weights in at 20 grams heavier than the MSR however, it provides 2 cups, 2 bowls, and a 2. 2 liters pot. It also seems to pack better in a rucksack which is critical when trying to jam everything into a smaller rucksack. The space and weight savings when considering two people, is definitely making this new cook set my `` go to '' for summer adventures!

I 've used the collapsible 1. 4L pot from Sea to Summit for a couple of years now and really enjoy how compact it is, so I was a little hesitant on the non- collapsibility of these pots. I was concerned about filling these pots up with items that might scratch the non- stick finish. They include a nice cloth that allows the smaller pot to nest into the larger pot and protect them from each other. I used that cloth and a bag to put my stove, fuel, all of my dishes, and utensils, plus my LED light strip into the 3L pot. It's all kept in nicely by the handle clicked over the lid. The 3L size was not as much of an issue as I thought it would be, just stuff more stuff into it! I have a large set of pots/ pans and the 3L size Frontier is easily the best volume/ weight ratio of any of them. Even including the handle in the weight. The non- stick is AWESOME and the bottom heats very evenly. I enjoyed cooking in this much more than my 1. 4L collapsible pot. The lid `` hook '' for placing the lid on the side of the pot is a nice feature... always hard to find a clean place for your lid! I also had no problem keeping the lid in place for draining pasta, nice solid lid fit on the pot. My only `` issue '' is the bottom of the pots has an `` indent ''. This is great for strength, but the diameter of the indent is slightly smaller than my optimus crux stove... so the pot is a little unstable/ off- kilter on the stove. Still 5 stars overall. This is a great pot set.

One thing that could be nice is the handle interface being on the lid as well to snap into just to not be fighting steam with your hands but not a deal breaker. [ First off why I gave four stars. The handle is too heavy for the small pot. When empty with handle attached the pot tips over. I use these with my overland set up so space is not an issue. The pots are well made and distribute heat evenly. Clean up is easy because of the non stick surface. I like how the pots nest into each other with the handles inverted also securing the lids. The microfiber towel in between the two pots is a nice touch to insure the pots don ’ t scratch themselves in transport. These replaced an old MSR cook set that I had for over 30 years. I only tried soup in it so far. It wasn ’ t hard for me to clean it afterwards because it was just soup. I do think other things will be tougher. The handle is a little hard to take off in my opinion. I ’ d worry about older people or people with fragile or weak hands being able to do it. Overall I ’ d recommend this.

I added in my own protein — I threw in some sausage and crawfish — and I cooked up the trinity( onion, celery, bell pepper) before mixing it all together. The rice in the mix cooked up nice, not too mushy or dry, and it actually had some flavor on its own. Like, it wasn ’ t bland like a lot of boxed rice stuff. I still seasoned the meat and veggies a little before adding them just to be safe. The spice level wasn ’ t crazy, just enough to give it a little kick without being too much. I think if I hadn ’ t added the trinity and meat it would ’ ve still be tasty, but with that stuff added it actually tasted pretty close to something homemade. Only thing is, if you like your rice extra fluffy or you want more heat, you might want to tweak it a bit. But for something that comes in a box, it was pretty fire. I ’ d totally make it again, maybe try adding seafood next time. Definitely worth it if you ’ re hungry and don ’ t feel like spending forever cooking.

[ I made smaller batches of jambalaya using this rather than one giant pot. You can keep it simple by just adding some meat/seafood. My favorite things to add are shrimp, smoked sausage and chicken. Or really dress it up by also adding bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic, onions, bacon. Actually, I enjoy making just the rice with the seasoning as a delicious and flavorful side. The perfect ratio for me is 2 cups rice, 4 cups chicken broth and two heaping tablespoons of seasoning. It ’s a nice flavor without being over powering. I would highly recommend this product! It makes meal time a little bit simpler.
