I am very happy with my purchase of the Malone J- dock Kayak& Gear storage rack. Installation was easy. I did use a bigger drill bit than instructed to drill the pilot holes for the screws, and used socket rather than a wrench to make it easier on myself. The whole installation was about 20 minutes. Once installed, placing my kayaks in the cradles took about 10 minutes. The straps to hang the second kayak did not ratchet as easily as I would have liked, and I suggest using your own straps, having help to take weight off the straps while you ratchet them up, or using something under the kayak to hold it up while you tighten the straps. Either way, once they kayak is up and the straps tightened the kayaks are secure and the system is great! I also liked having the ability to store my paddles on the rack.

I bought these for my '83 CJ7 with a hardtop. I added an adhesive- backed foam to the inside of the backer plate to keep from chipping my fiberglass, otherwise installed them stock and they 're perfect. I can now mount my Thule racks front and back for my water toys.

Overall I do recommend this item. Because I ride a recumbent trike and use a trailer for my kayak, I want to transport both. The shorter tongue on the kayak trailer does not fit well under my recumbent trike carrier. Mine is a different situation than most; therefore, I do recommend this. Due to my needs, I rated this 4 instead of 5.

We have used this rack for 2 trips. It does not lock, but is east to remove from the crossbar to be stowed inside the vehicle while we were camping. The rack is compact so that we were ae to carry a kayak and a canoe on our trips. After a 5 hour car ride, the vessels were still secure and stable. Excellent product.

Nice quality, this mounted perfectly on Toyota OEM crossbars as the bracket is about 4 '' wide. I suggest putting the straps on the rack 1 kayak at a time and start with loading the side of the vehicle with the rack farthest away( if not centered) as it is easy to get them tangled and bunched over each other. Also, if you have an SUV you will be hopeless putting on 2 kayaks by yourself if you are under 6' tall. I bought my rack second hand( used once) from a shorter person with a big SUV.

We have used the Thule Compass many times and we love it. The only issue is that it does take a while to load and secure boats. Not a huge deal and should get better with practice.

I 'm very impressed with the entire process. Ordering from the website was simple, Thule made it easy to see what products do and do n't fit my vehicle. Delivery was estimated for the end of the week however, the boxes were on my doorstep 48 hours later which made me super happy. I 'm very impressed with the quality of the materials used and how tightly everything fits together.
