Winter inevitably comes. Along with it is the need to continue riding the bike. The classic summer bike helmet just does n't work in the wintertime as it's just too full of holes for ventilation. Enter the Smith Survey Snow helmet. It has enough ventilation to keep the visor from fogging, but not enough to make your head cold. It has better protection than ANY bike helmet. Love the photochromatic lens. Super light helmet barely feels it is on. I added the Aleck nunchucks and it sounds great. A couple of improvements points.( a better protection for the lens when stowed away, maybe a whole helmet rigid case or a rigid cover for the lens. Also, the earmuffs out pressure on the ears when using with the audio system.

I used to use a separate goggle and helmet system and this is so much easier and less fuss. I ordered a size larger than I thought I needed in order to be able to fit a thin beanie underneath and I made the right choice. My only complaint is the space between the visor and my upper cheek allows cold air in but I think with the right face protection it should be okay. As I found out, the addition of the MIPS to the existing Maze design means that the helmet fits small. I wear a Large in the Smith Holt that I 've had for years, but the Large Maze MIPS is just tight enough to be uncomfortable. I 'll exchange it though, as the fit system was great, vents looked good and the look was perfect. More feedback... the ear covers dampened a lot of sound, more than my Holt ever did.

[ I bought this awhile ago as an upgrade from my original helmet. I liked having the MIPS extra protection but did n't want anything too fancy in the design. I rode with this helmet yesterday on the mountain and it was a warmer day, so I was glad I could take off the ear pads for better ventilation. The only drawback to that is the back of the helmet's plastic MIPS does contact the back of your neck so I used raised my neck gaiter up and it was no longer an issue. Solid helmet with great style.

First, I really liked this helmet from a comfort and fit perspective. It kept my head dry, fit well without constricting, so no complaints there. Second, I ’ ve referred to my helmet in the past tense because on a recent ski trip( I ’ m a boarder, but my family skis, so I ’ m going with ski trip here) I caught my edge on my last run( I know, I know) and I was slammed into the slope on my back, and I whacked my head on the ground. It was a hard impact. I still got a concussion, but I am certain my helmet saved me from much worse. I ’ ll be replacing my helmet with another Smith. Hopefully the new one will have a more peaceful retirement.

Assembly was definitely not 90 minutes but family enjoyed putting this together as we all participated in it. Agree with another review that it is heavy once filled up and the fact the instructions pointed that out in the beginning. Would highly advise to have it where it will be used before you fill it up! It is heavy and difficult to move so I would n't try by yourself! We added a weather proof bag with another 100 pounds of sand to keep on top and it survived 60mph winds that came through where we live. I will say, I keep it lowered to 8 feet when it was windy and it kept it lower to the ground vs extended to 10 feet. Crank is easy to work and markings on pole are easy to read. Would buy again!

My son had the AllStar Axis 7( adult) system for a couple of years and loved it. We chose this set to replace the Axis because I liked the things we read about the helmet. Turns out the my son likes this whole set better. The legs were the hardest part to get used to because they are so different; but, after his first game he said they were awesome and he is glad we got this set. He takes some pretty hard hits in varsity baseball and said this feels like it is protecting him well. Ease of movement is good, shock absorption( foul balls) in the helmet feels better he said, the chest protector seems well built and is easy to put on. As far as durability we haven ’ t had it long enough to say one way or the other.
