Just got back from a few days hiking around Mammoth Mountain and I have to say the Katadyn BeFree AC 1. 0L was one of the best pieces of gear I brought. I used it at Fern Lake, Superior Lake, Holcomb Lake, NoName Lake, and down by Rainbow Falls. Some of those high- Sierra lakes can have that classic alpine “ lake taste ” — a little earthy, sometimes a hint of mineral or algae. The activated charcoal stage completely wiped it out. Every single time the water came out tasting clean and neutral, like it came from a fridge. No weird aftertaste, no weird smell. Just pure, cold water. That alone made the whole trip better. The soft flask is super easy to fill — just dunk the wide mouth in a lake or stream, screw the filter back on, and start drinking. Flow is excellent. I never felt like I was fighting it. A couple of firm squeezes and you ’ re getting water right away. When I was moving between lakes it was nice not having to stop for long. Fill, drink, keep hiking. It ’s ridiculously light and packs down small when empty, which I appreciated on the longer stretches. The flip cap kept everything clean and didn ’ t leak in my pack. Cleaning was simple too — just a quick shake/swish in some water and it was good to go again. I ’ ve used other filters before that left a slight plastic or chemical taste, or slowed down after a few days. This one stayed consistent the whole trip and the charcoal did exactly what it was supposed to do. If you ’ re heading into the Sierra( or anywhere with natural water sources), this little bottle is worth every ounce. Highly recommend.

[ This bottle is excellent. Fill the bottle, put a filter puck in the screw on cap, and drink; it does not get any simpler. I went on a few multiday trips with this bottle in stow, and I have yet to find a bottle more packable. A few inches is all you need as far as space goes. Basically, it take about as much space as a tennis ball and it's very lightweight. I was worried that it might be a little tough to clean, but that's not the case. I have narrow bottle brushes to scrub if need be, but honestly fill it with soap and water when you get home, shake it out, and hang it upside down.

It ’s compact enough for easy storage but has enough volume so that you could use it as your only bottle. The flow is decent and the cap is secure even knocking around rocks. This little thing just works. I haven ’ t had to clean it yet but the directions seem very simple. Highly recommend for any trip where you need to filter water!

[ I have tried just about every ultralight water filtration system on the market and been repeatedly impressed by the BeFree's flow rate. The BeFree AC seems even faster than the original model, filling up my one- liter water bottle within seconds. After receiving this system in the mail, I tested it on multiple dayhikes and trail runs. It held up well, and the collapsible bottle made it exceedingly easy to pack. I usually stuffed it into the mesh front pocket of my backpack so I would have easy access to it when I came across a stream. I filtered probably a few dozen liters and saw no decline in the flow rate. The bottle's large mouth opening makes filling up a breeze. Throw on the filter cartridge and cap and you can drink straight from the bottle or filter water into another container. Simply put, this filtration system is very quick and easy to use. Because I saw no decline in flow rate, I had no reason to clean the filter cartridge in the field, but I know that this is also easy. All you have to do is fill the bottle with clean water, put on the filter cartridge and cap, and shake. I know from using the original BeFree that this method works to restore the flow when gunk from water sources clogs up the filter on long backpacking trips. This method is much easier than filters that require backflushing. The BeFree AC is also slightly sleeker than the original version, which makes it easier to keep the filter in your pocket during the winter so it does n't freeze. I have several long backpacking trips and mountain climbs scheduled this year, and I will be taking the BeFree AC as my primary water filtration system. Katadyn Group gave me this free product to try.

First thing about this bottle, it is huge! It holds a ton of water which comes in very handy. It seems very well made and solid. The rubber on the bottom is fantastic. My other water bottles are metal on the bottom and slide everywhere. The rubber really helps it to stay upright and to not damage things you might put it down on( hood of your car, etc)

This simple water bottle is excellent for daily use. Note that it is NOT insulated and works best if you don ’ t plan on trying to keep your drink cold for long periods. It will “ sweat ” depending on the liquid temperature. I use it if I need to have some water for a quick trip of errands, but also works well when I need to mix some simple, powdered supplements. The wide opening and cap are rubberized and easy to grip, remove, and replace. The only thing I think would make this bottle better is if the cap was an attached flip cap rather than the tether, which is a little awkward, so I removed it. The transparent blue is great for giving it some style and visibility to see how much liquid you have. This bottle is consistent with Yeti's quality and durability.

I think this was the intention to get a better flow rate if using it to fill other bottles or bladders quickly and for ease of drinking from the bottle. This may lower puncture resistance but also lowers weight and bulk. The bottle is very light.

This bottle filter worked great! I used it on a self support kayak trip on the Middle Fork Salmon and was able to scoop river water and drink it immediately. The river water was very clear and clean so I did n't have any problems with the filter clogging. Your results might vary if used on a less pristine river. But I 'd highly recommend this filter

I am a fan of Katadyn Water Purifier Product. I bought 4 of the Bottles as gifts for my family members. We use them primarily for back country hunting in Wyoming so clean safe water is possible using Katadyn. The filter seem reliable, easy to clean, dry, and start use again after a trip. I have used the Katadyn 6 liter Be Free Gravity Filter for static camp, and the Katadyn Be Free 1 liter bag bottle is always in my pack empty but available for use when needed. My thoughts are the bottle being a little harder plastic would be more durable for use similar to a bike water bottle style but with the filter built in. New this Unit has a Carbon Filter. I find Katadyn Filters to be excellent, and I would recommend for back packers as they are lightweight& do n't easily clog for me.

[ Received the bottle and inserted the carbon filter and then ran tap water through it. Then, I used this product to filter water at a stream on a hike, and the flow was great and the product is so easy to use. I just strapped the bottle on my pack and could easily get to it to fill up and drink cold fresh water. It cleans easily and the filter worked great. This product can be used by a beginner or an expert. I 've been using BeFree for years and I think what I really like about this new bottle is that it fits on the side pocket of pack as well as in the attachment I use on my front strap.

[ I was genuinely impressed by how fast this filter flows, significantly better than other filters I ’ ve used in the past. Straight forward to use and clean. The bottle itself is slightly softer than a standard cycling bottle, which makes it easy to squeeze and noticeably boosts water output up to 2L/min when you need it. One important consideration: the filter components are sensitive to freezing and can be damaged if they freeze, so extra care is required in cold environments to prevent freezing. Beyond the sensitivity to freezing, I don ’ t question it ’s durability and ability to hold up in typical outdoor activities. Overall, this is an excellent option to keep on your mountain bike or in a backpack when heading into the backcountry. It offers the convenience of refilling from nearby water sources without sacrificing flow rate or usability. It is too big to fit in a running vest front pocket, but thankfully Katadyn makes filtration bottles that do! Katadyn Group gave me this free product to try.

[ I know this isn ’ t the 1st water filter bottle that can fit into a bikes water bottle mount but it ’s the first one I ’ ve used and I ’ ll tell you about what I love about it. The first is that it uses the same method to install the carbon filter to the nozzle as other Katadyn products. This method does not increase the size footprint of the product. I like my LifeStraw but to add the carbon filter you have to attach another filter to the original which almost doubles the size of it. Second thing is right out of the box there is no chemical taste from a new filter. Other brands require some filtering first to get the taste out. As a bikepacker I can see myself carrying multiple of these for long trips. I did some testing to see if this would work on other brand bottles and the thread pitch is different between brands so you have to use it only with the Katadyn bottle. The only thing I can think that would make this better would make an insulated version of it to keep it cooler on hot days. Highly recommended. Katadyn Group gave me this free product to try. This plan worked for about 2 days until my girlfriend decided to steal it and take it to HER work for the exact same reason. Pros: Sturdy construction: You can simply feel how durable this thing is. Easy to measure: I found it very easy to premeasure my morning shake with this bottle, and the fact that it's tinted clear is great for this purpose. Large volume: It holds a lot! what more do you want? The handle is wonderful. Cons: Large volume: it's a large bottle so transport can be hairy depending on the situation. No cup holder will deal with this thing. hah!
