They do the job of holding the guards in place nicely and I prefer this style over the style that has the piece that goes under your feet. I had been experiencing some right shoulder soreness after a week of baseball fantasy camp. My body responds well to compression so I gave this sleeve a try. It feels a bit awkward at first, but once you find the sweet spot you barely notice you 're wearing it. I even wore it to sleep a few times and no issues during the night. Even though my measurement suggested I get the LG size, I decided to purchase the smaller one and the compression felt much better for me using that one. Keep in mind you will have to gently wash it every so often as it nestles right under the armpit area.
