[ I 'll admit I do n't know too much about this type of shell jacket. I usually wear a heavy commercial fishing style pvc jacket when I 'm working and a frogg toggs jacket when I 'm backpacking. I also have an old North Face shell that I found in a snow drift, nobody asks me for change when I 'm wearing it. So needless to say I 'm really impressed with this shell. I ca n't believe how lightweight and packable it is. The pit zips are generous and the material itself seems very breathable. My favorite part is the cut. I have a long torso and this thing sure does keep rain out of the plumbers crack. The sleeves are long enough that you can gasket your gloves. The torso has an athletic cut, I feel less like a sail flapping in the wind compared to when I wear my other gear. The pockets look weird, sitting high up on your ribs like cat nipples, but I think they make a lot of sense. They work really well with a pack belt, staying accessible and providing less material to chafe. It's a thoughtful design for the outdoorsperson, dissing these pockets is admitting to being an athleisure poser, too delicate for a heavy pack and too self- conscious for sensible cat nipple style gear storage.

[ First off, it ’s really lightweight and doesn ’ t restrict my movement. Love the huge pockets that extend above the backpack ’s hip belt- a nice place to protect my phone and other electronics in the downpour while still easily accessible. Got into a really heavy rain while on top of a mountain, barely had time to put the jacket on, everything was soaking wet in less than a minute. The part under the jacket remained completely dry. The shell also has nice big pit zips for ventilation, which are easy to open/close with one hand. Not all jackets can boast this feature

This is a serious raincoat. The material is thick and sturdy, I like the brim on the hood and the heavy duty zippers. I like all the pockets( inside and out), the double cuffs( it has elastic cuffs inside the coat's outer cuffs- which I thought was a great idea), and the funnel neck collar. I 've spent more than this on a rain coat from a high- end outdoor company for a trip to the Pacific Northwest and it was a total fail. I have every confidence that had I had this raincoat for that trip, I would have had no problems. I 've been reading a lot of newer Carhartt reviews that complain that Carhartt is moving more towards fashionable clothes rather than durable clothes that perform- I 'm happy to report that this is NOT one of those pieces. It's a great quality coat that I am confident will last me for several years and keep me dry in the mightiest downpour. As to sizing: I typically wear a medium in Carhartt's women's tops and a medium or large in general clothing, depending on the cut. I wandered into the men's section for this one because I liked the color selection better on this side of the room( the olive/moss green color is really nice.) So, to any of the ladies out there who may be reading this: this is a men's coat- it IS boxy coat. I 'm keeping the medium because I 'm leaving for a trip in three days and I need a raincoat, but if I had the luxury of time, I would probably exchange it for a men's small. It's not egregiously large, maybe just 50% larger than I would normally wear. As it is, there's plenty of room for layers underneath and the arms are quite large, and has ample room in the shoulder. But it's a men's coat. So... that's to be expected. I think it will last me for years and years. I 'm very happy with it!

I was impressed with this jacket from the moment I received it. Even before wearing it, I could see that the attention to detail and quality is top- notch. The stitching, the inside seams, and the quality of materials all look and feel great right off the bat. I was not disappointed when I took this on my first rainy hike. Water beaded up nicely on the outside of the shell and the pit zips came in very handy as I started heating up. I really like that the material has a somewhat soft feel to it- its not slick like other rain jackets I 've worn in the past. The material is much quieter when moving as well. I also got several complements on the jacket from some fellow hikers( I have the Cenote version- I love the color combo!) My one wish is that that the hood brim had a little more heft to it. This rain jacket is super impressive. When it comes to traveling, camping, hiking, or even exploring new cities, countries, etc. You ca n't beat the portability of this jacket. It is super thin and light making it easy to roll up and store into any type of bag weather it's a backpack, purse, or even large fanny pack. Even for being so light and thin, it easily stops water from getting through. I 've had zero issues with any type of moisture getting inside either due to prolonged periods of water exposure or leaks through any seals and stitching. I will say, because it's so thin, in colder weather, you would need a warmer layer underneath to act as insulation. That being said, you might need to get one size up than normal so it can fit over any layers you need. Also, if you are traveling through any thick brush or scraping up against rocks, you need to be careful about scraping or snagging any sharp/rough surfaces too hard to prevent any micro/macro tears in the material. Being so thin, it's not super durable, but it's not very easily torn either. Overall fantastic product and highly recommend

I 'm an avid hiker in Colorado. I never go on a hike without this jacket. It's lightweight and super easy to pack. It keeps me completely dry on the trail and works great as a windbreaker as well. I ’ ve had two of these now over the last 5- 6 years. I do a lot of saltwater fishing on the Northern California coast and this involves actively wading up to my waste in saltwater sometimes. This jacket combined with my waders keeps me dry very well. The first one I had the zipper failed on it after about 4 seasons of heavy use in saltwater so I can ’ t fault the product for that since just about anything will fail in saltwater. I bought a new one and am back out there staying dry and warm. These are really light too, I can see them as a budget backpacking rain shell option as well. I use mine for backpacking also but by ultralight backpacker standards this is not an ultralight jacket. That said it will keep you dry and it is a great wind breaker too. Can ’ t beat the value.

I ca n't say enough good things about this jacket. I 've owned countless name brand rain jackets specifically designed for outdoor activity, but this one is by FAR the best I 've used. There are countless details that set this rain jacket apart from other brands. First, it's remarkably comfortable. The inside liner makes the jacket/skin contact feel like a normal jacket as opposed to the discomfort plastic feel of other brands. The jacket is quiet, and hardly has any sound typically associated with rain jackets. The hood works wonderfully, fits well around my head, and does n't block my vision when looking left and right. The sleeve design around the wrist even allows for you to check your watch with ease, but effortlessly slides back over based on the well positioned elastic. The sleeves do n't ride up while casting a fly rod either. I waited to write a review until I 'd spent some time on the water fishing with it as well. The jacket performed equally as well in a 5 hour down pour while I waded a NC trout stream as it does walking around town. I had no restrictions fly casting, and landing fish. I remained dry after fishing for 5 hours in a constant downpour, and it breathed well the entire time. I enjoy all of my Free Fly products, but this jacket is my favorite product yet. If you have any need for a quality rain jacket with extreme comfort, range of motion, and legit rain resistance then this is a must purchase.

Received a little late due to shipping SNAFU, but Elliot at FFA had another in the mail quickly. Once I received the jacket, I was well impressed with its quality and impeccable attention to detail. I can not overstate that, as there was not an errant thread, fabric blemish, or ill- bonded seam whatsoever. A word of caution to those who might overthink the sizing- it is definitely true to size, so plan accordingly if you intend to layer underneath. 50 degree downpours or light rain are what it excels at. Much colder, and you ’ ll be dry and cold, as when properly fitted and NOT up- sized, you won ’ t have enough room to comfortably layer. Mine fits exceptionally well with no binding or hiking up during practically any activity. It fits best with a T, a polo, or a normal poly/cotton collared shirt. Much more than that underneath- cautiously consider oversizing. I say this because the arm length and cuffs are perfectly matched to the size- at least for me. I prefer a perfect cuff length with the necessary true fit on my torso, than longer cuffs that would expectedly come with an up- sized torso. My tape measurements are: Chest( nipples)- 41 ” /Tummy( bellybutton)- 39 ” /Hips( pelvis)- 37 ” /booty- 38 ”. Weight: 162lbs. Height: 5 ’ 9 ” I ’ d have hoped for this type fitting information when I purchased a somewhat expensive and purpose- built rain jacket, but that is not realistic given the variance in body types. So if anyone has similar sizing to me, you can rest assured that my measurements are indicative of the fit I have reviewed. One thing I can ’ t stress enough though, the cuff length is spot- on for me, at the size jacket I purchased( L). They extend just past the wrist bone, and my nape to wrist bone measurement is 31. 5 ” I ’ m hugely satisfied with the jacket, and feel that the value is within the range of price……. perhaps slightly lower by 7- 10 percent by some, but that is based on the individual.

I live in New England, and I 'm traveling to `` old '' England later this year. Between our record rainfall back home and variable conditions across the pond, I needed a good raincoat. Cue* hours* of research, which landed me here. So far I 've worn this coat out in several storms for 10- 20min at a time( walking the dog) and after a quick shake off in the mudroom, it's completely dry. And so am I! Plus it's quiet, blocks wind, and the material has a nice matte finish. The colors are lovely, classy green shades that go with everything. Got a medium and there's room to layer a fairly bulky coat or sweatshirt underneath but it's not huge if I 'm just in a t- shirt. I 'm 5' 6 '', athletic 150lbs, 37- 27- 38. I 'm literally excited to camp and hike in the rain this summer now that I 'll have this coat to protect me. Now I just want OR to make a matching one for the dog.

I prefer light colors for visibility in stormy conditions, so I got the white/tan one. The internal drawstring at the waist is flattering. The hood WILL NOT blow down in wind. It is beautiful in person and it gives both fashionable and functional. I love the buttons on this coat and the bungee inside gives you more of a fitted look. You can easily dress this trench coat up or down. I ’ m planning on wearing this during my Alaska trip to layer on top during those wet rainy days. It seems very well insulated and breathable. I would suggest sizing down from your normal size. It already gives a bit of an oversized fit. I think Colombia is the only one that makes a fleece lined raincoat and I absolutely love it for cold rain. You CAN layer in other rain coats but when you just want a quick trip to take the dogs out in the rain in the cold weather nothing beats a warm rain coat when you don ’ t need a heavy winter coat. I love my Cielo rain Jacket. I 'm from Malaysia, and we have crazy monsoon rain here. After the 2nd day I received the jacket, I was headed out to my first Salsa class, and it was pouring. I needed to make it there in time as it was a 40 min drive from home, but with rain and traffic, I had to use the motorbike. I thought to myself, now this would be a Super Test for the jacket. In the pouring rain, the jacket kept me warm, and rain did not enter through my cuffs which i really appreciate. Because my older jacket, wind would often ride up my sleeves. I was also grateful that my salsa shirt( not! it was more of an outdoorsie one) was dry. This would mean water did not leak through the zippers, even with wind and splashes from other vehicles. My only concern was the front pocket where i kept my phone at my chest, was very damp. Something for me to prepare next time would be a little zip lock bag to ensure important things in the pocket stay dry. On arrival, my new Salsa friends was impressed i got through the storm, and had a dry shirt on! But they laughed at my soaking wet jeans.

I wore it as a top layer and it was the only reason I was able to stay warm no matter how bad the weather got. Very comfortable and has adjustable features everywhere. AMAZING
