The cup does hols cold water for a long period of time. The cup can be used with or without the straw. when the cup is filled with ice and your drink of choice, it does get a little heavy to hold. There is no handle.

I leave them in a hot car when running errands and always have ice cold drinks all day. Glad they finally offered replacement straws as it is nice to have a spare.
