I bought this for my six year old and the small runs a little big for his size. He is about average to above average for his age. I wish they made an XS and it would fit perfectly. I am not made because it still does the job and he will grow into in another year.

The material is a good quality and thick enough for wearing without shorts over top- which is important since as a Sprinter he wears these with his track singlet top when competing. I 've tried various cups and shorts for karate, and these are by far the most comfortable. The cup is soft but sturdy, and offers great protection for those unexpected blows( also machine washable). The shorts are fantastic, and feature Shock Doctor's Ultra Cup Retention System, which is by far the best I 've seen for maintaining cup position. There is a flap at the top of the cup pocket for keeping the cup down and straps at the base of the pocket which go under and connect to the back, keeping the pocket pulled back. The cup never strayed, even during squats, kicks, or sprints. If you want consistent, comfortable protection, this cup/short combo will do the trick.
