When they first arrived in the mail they were way smaller than expected and I was kind of shocked, but as soon as I started using them they became my favorite carabiners yet. They handle so easily in your hand and the screwgate is super smooth.

So the photo on the site is the first generation GridLock. There was an inline change where the i- beam section at the top most bit where your rope runs is now a short bit of circular section. This is because the pure i- beam section would end up with some shallow grooves after using it for a while. Even with that small improvement I still love and use my first gen gridlock. I would n't recommend the Magneton version of it though for a belay biner. Leaving the gate unlocked makes it way easier to load it onto your belay loop, and load in your atc quickly. Rather than having to manipulate and unlock the gate multiple times moving it on and off your harness and belay device. Or having to do really intricate 2 hand movements to try to keep the gate open when taking things on and off. As say a via ferratta leash carabiner that 'd be a really good application of the magnetron version.

Welp... 3 months ago I hated this thing, liked the idea for marathon belaying at the gym with ATC so I never had to look down shamefully at my `` upside down '' pear carabiner, however found it to be a real pain to get over my wider BD Solution belay loop... I just got a BD zone harness( 10/10 would recommend) and this thing pops right over its thinner belay loop, and now I love it!
