I have a Ranger Stove and can assure you that these stoves are as smokeless as they can be. The holes as the top of the stove form a funnel that forces whatever smoke is created to go straight up in the air. I was so impressed that I ordered the next size stove. I also just used a piece of metal to cover the top, but now there's an actual cover to go along with it. It definitely makes it all look nicer.
