Very low profile( they fit right under your pants or shirt) and they really take the sting out of a fall. The best thing is that you do n't even notice you have them on( they do n't restrict mobility at all). I took a knee right to the pavement at one point in a way that would have taken me out of commission for a few days in the past and I did n't feel a thing.( I was a little sore the next day, but as I said the kind of fall I had would normally have been a much more serious injury). For the usual bumps and falls, these things really do the job( especially when the board knocks your knees or you fall on an elbow doing a trick). A word of advice for McDavid: I think there is a really big untapped market for you guys in skateboarding.

I went down on my knees full force with her in my arms without feeling a thing and was able to keep her back and head off the ice at the same time. on another occasion I went down on my knees after catching my toe pick on a corner, bounced, and slid the rest of the way on my butt. Hightly recommended for figure skaters.

There is more than adequate padding as there is some side padding to cover the right and left on the knee cap area. I do n't think I would have thought of this feature as a need when I was playing in high school and super healthy at age 16. But now at age 30, this side padding is a game changer. Not only do I feel protected if I take a less than graceful dive for a ball but the side padding also gives more support for knees in the way that a brace would provide. I highly recommend these for more middle- aged athletes that bodies could use a bit of extra support to keep from injuries. I would have loved these at 16 too but I do n't think I would have needed the side padding as much as I do now.

I was not sold on the variable size feature( it goes from size 5- 8 as your kid grows), but I got it because the package brings knee, elbow, and wrist guards which would have cost$ 30 by themselves. The boot is not a real boot but a soft material. The laces do very little in the way of support as opposed to traditional ice skates. The only thing keeping you from breaking your ankles is a velcro strap near your ankle and a ski boot style strap at your calf........ surprisingly, this works for lightweight kids in the beginner stage.......... I liked it so much that I bought a pair for my other young boy........ but when I tried a similar style for adults, it would clearly break with the stresses that I would put on it.
