Growing up, we never had a facemask for our batting helmets. This past spring season, the league made it mandatory. It was a good thing, too. There have been times that the ball hit the players face mask. We are in a fall league that the face mask is not mandatory. Sure, my son ’s helmet is slightly heavier than the other kids. I don ’ t have to worry about a wild pitch or foul tip going to his jaw or face. Since my son wears glasses, I see the mask as protecting any wild pitches from smashing his glasses. We have Easton ’s facemask in the past without any issues. We were unable to find an Easton helmet and facemask. He tried on the Under Armor helmet and it fit well. We purchased the face mask that goes with it. It took less than 3 minutes to put it together. It is sturdy and durable. If you are playing baseball, make sure that you do not purchase a softball mask. A baseball will be able to fit through the cage bars.
