I purchased the Razor HD 8x32 from the wonderful store, Jay's Bird Barn in Prescott, Arizona about two years ago. I use them primarily for birding and occasionally for astronomy( the Beehive Cluster is a fantastic sight through these things). For birding they are great for close work such as my back yard Hummingbird feeder just 10 feet from the chair on my deck. For medium distances they also provide excellent, wonderfully clear views.

I wear eyeglasses and it is great if a set of binos gives me the option to view without removing my glasses. The UHD 10x50 allows this, and so does the Razor HD 8x42. They are better than the Viper 8x42 in this respect even though the eye relief on the spec sheet is less. Friendly reminder that the effective eye relief is never just the eye relief on a spec sheet, especially when comparing different brands/lines. Glass? Exceptional, as you 'd expect with the Razor name. Easy handling, great glass, large exit pupil, and great eye relief have made these my go - to bino. Love my UHD 10x50, but the 8x42 is 12 ounces lighter and easier to live with.

I bought these about a year ago and taken them hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains and walking on Maui beaches. I 've been impressed by their light weight and compactness. I appreciate the sureness of the rubberized feel and the balance in focusing between easiness and stability. As a photographer, I notice and really like the brightness and contrast of the images. The bino's twin hinges allow me to see a contiguous image, since I have a narrow interpupillary distance( on most binoculars, I see a black space in the middle of the image). The binoculars are n't waterproof. After I ran some water over the objective( front) lenses to remove sand, the binos fogged up for four days, then functioned normally. However, and fortunately, they do n't fog up after going from a low - humidity, air - conditioned environment to a humid, outdoor environment, as camera lenses are prone to do. So, to be fair, with reasonable care and for the price, no stars should be subtracted for the lack of waterproofness( Nikon never claimed they were waterproof, anyway).

I bought two different magnifications, and while the 8x32 do allow for brighter lighting, I chose the 10x32 as most of use will be during the day and in the car. I was finally able to determine whether the “ dog ” I kept seeing was indeed a coyote and not a wolf or a stray. And yup, you CAN see the craters on the moon!( HINT: They show up better when the moon is not full). I also have a pair of 8x42 I keep for home use. Really enjoying these very portable Nocs!

For things up close that you would like to see further away, like my wife, my mother in law, or the cops after I get caught looking at the neighbor girl, just flip them around and look through the other side.
