[ I purchased these for a trip that I would need glacier glasses. I found an online article comparing choices and I chose to try these due to the removable sides, the weight of the glasses, their multi - use design( water& snow sports) and mid range price point. Note that the all black version does NOT come with the side shields. I discovered this after I first tried the black. But I ’ m actually much happier with the look of the smoke frames with mirror lenses. The smoke is not as stark a look. I ’ m a female with medium to large female head and these fit well and look good on me. They may be big for women with smaller heads. They are so light that I barely feel them. Which is important when I ’ ll be wearing for extended periods on the water. Even with a hat on, they felt comfortable on my ears. I ’ ve never spent so much money on sunglasses before, but I can definitely feel the quality. The trip I needed them for got canceled but I decided to keep them because I like them so much and they are so versatile.

1) Support your local boutique eyewear shop! They can order Maui Jim's for you, for basically the same price you can get them online. It helps your local economy, along w/ getting you some professional assistance! 2) For me, it came down to the Southern Cross vs. the Kanaio Coast( KC). I actually ordered a pair of each and then decided from there. My concern was that the Southern Cross initially seemed too big for my face and that the KC was a smaller version of the Southern Cross - thus better. And, indeed, the KC is very much like a mini - Southern Cross. 3) But I found the Southern Cross an absolute upgrade over the KC. They are more substantial - the Southern Cross very much feels like an expensive, significant pair of sunglasses in your hand, what you 'd want for the high cost.... The KC does not give off this feeling - they seem much less quality in your hand, more like a department store brand sunglass. Do n't get me wrong, the KC are nice glasses - I almost bought them. But the Southern Cross pair is simply a superior build. 4) I needed a reader put into my lenses and because the KC is smaller, the reader sat too far up the lens - it was distracting. The larger Southern Cross seems custom made for the reader - the lens having plenty of room to allow the reader to sit low and unobtrusive. 5) The smaller KC also sat too close to my eyelashes - I had to adjust them to not hit my eyelashes. The Southern Cross, no issues. 6) If you are looking for a pair of high end Maui Jim wraps, the Southern Cross is a fantastic choice. And if you think they look too big on your face, do n't immediately put them aside. They very well are n't too big. Incredible shades. I started with the Red Sands, which were great. However, since my head is NOT the size of a parade balloon, I swapped 'em out for the more streamlined Pokowai Arches. They fit my medium - sized melon perfectly. I love these things because they 're stylish( translucent gray frames, Hawaii blue lenses), but they are also incredibly light - weight... if you 're after comfort, you simply will not find a pair of glasses that can compete with these. Well done, Maui Jim! Now, it's on me - I need to cherish these, and hold on to them, unlike the 6, 300 pairs of shades I 've lost throughout my life( approximate count).

I personally love these sunglasses. I unfortunately found out quick that the lenses are not immune to snowboard edges, so other then a little scuff on them I really enjoy them.
