I ’ m glad there are alternatives to lead more widely available now. I haven ’ t fished in a few years but now I ’ m teaching my kids. Initially I was concerned that the tin would be too light but by the chart I saw on another brand, it ’s just one size larger for split shots. These sinkers were easy enough to close by hand but I used pliers to crimp them anyway. They will not slip on your line easily when crimped. I expect each split shot can be used several times but the tin is not as durable so it deformed rather quickly. My only real complaint is the case. It ’s rigid brittle plasticis the same case for the last 60 years. It would be great if Eagle Claw used a softer plastic that can take a hit, and put number etches in the mold so you know which sizes are which for refilling. Usage note: I left the removable tab in the plastic. It slows down the flow of sinkers so you only get a couple instead of 20 at a time. Enjoy.

Shot weights are used to help anglers achieve the desired depth and presentation of their bait or lure in the water. By adding weight, you can control how quickly your bait sinks and how it moves through the water column, which is crucial for attracting fish. They are especially useful in various fishing techniques, such as drop shotting or when fishing in currents.
Shot weights can be made from various materials, including lead, tungsten, and tin. Each material has its own benefits; for example, tungsten is denser and allows for smaller weights, while lead is more affordable. Tin is often chosen for its non-toxic properties, making it a safer option for the environment.
Choosing the right size shot weight depends on several factors, including the type of fishing you are doing, the depth of the water, and the current conditions. Generally, lighter weights are suitable for calm waters, while heavier weights are better for deeper or faster-moving waters. It's important to experiment with different sizes to find what works best for your specific fishing situation.
Yes, shot weights are versatile and can be used for various types of fishing, including freshwater and saltwater fishing. They are effective for techniques such as bottom fishing, drop shotting, and even for certain types of trolling. The key is to match the weight and style of the shot to your fishing technique and target species.
Snap weights offer the advantage of easy attachment and detachment, allowing anglers to quickly adjust their setup without retying. This flexibility can be particularly useful when changing depths or adjusting to different fishing conditions. Additionally, snap weights can help maintain a consistent bait presentation, which is crucial for attracting fish.
Using shot weights effectively involves understanding how to position them in relation to your bait and the water column. Techniques such as varying the distance between the weight and the bait can create different presentations. Additionally, adjusting the weight based on water conditions and fish behavior can enhance your chances of success.
