It was plenty warm enough for cool evenings and at high elevations. But the best feature of this jacket is the hood. The hood fits so well around your face and neck. This has become my favourite layer under my shell for cold winter hikes when its- 20 and the wind is blowing.

I have been on the hunt for a longer raincoat that covers my rear. I have a `` regular '' length Columbia raincoat that I love. This one is great and will be in heavy rotation. I got the Greenscape color. I am 5' 5 '' and wear a women 's 16. I got an XXL to be able to wear a sweatshirt or sweater under it. It is generously sized. I might have been able to go XL. I knocked a star off for 2 things that others have raised here. The hood is pretty much useless as it either falls in your eyes or flops backwards. Point 2 is that in my other Columbia rain jacket you can tighten the cuffs with a strap to stop water or wind from blowing up your sleeve. The Weekend Adventure has one snap that tightens the cuff by about an inch. That is not going to keep water or wind out.

I got this for an upcoming trip to Ireland. I am 5' 1 '' and a size 25 waist but I got a size S so I can still wear sweaters underneath. It 's so cute and exactly what I was looking for! So far I 've worn it during heavy rain while walking my dog and I stayed completely dry. I like the little flap on the hood so rain does n't get in your face as easily. I like the adjustable waist and hood. I would 've preferred buttons or some other way to secure the front flap as opposed to the velcro but it is n't that big of a deal to me. It feels well made and is warm without making me hot. It does look like a heavier coat because of the insolation but it 's pretty light.

This jacket is better in person than it is online. I purchased this specifically for traveling in the fall when there might be periods of rain. I needed a jacket that would provide warmth as well as protection from the rain. I have previously purchased a carhartt jacket with the description of a `` loose fit '' so I was familiar with sizing. I puchased the large and it is a perfect fit. I have to pay attention to measurements and sizing since I have a very full bust. Not only is it a perfect fit, I am also able to wear it over a medium weight hoodie if I should happen to need extra warmth. I tend to `` run cold '' so warmth is always a concern for me. My previous option to tackling the rain in chilly weather, was to wear a down jacket and then put a lightweight rain jacket on top of that. Peeling off the layers became very annoying when wet. This jacket should be a perfect solution for me. I am only 4' 11 '' and although I have short arms, the sleeves on this jacket are just fine. The velcro allows you to adjust how snug you need the wrist opening to be and I am able to adjust it so it provides protection and a comfortable fit. I chose the color black as it just works best for the color palette I gravitate towards. The interior and exterior pockets are great. There is an exterior zip pocket to the left of the zipper on the upper chest area, you will find it where the carhartt logo is located. My phone fits in here perfectly and makes for easy access when needed. The partial elastic at the waist provides a feminine touch and makes the jacket look less boxy. You have the side zippers and snap closure on each side at your upper thigh area if you should need a bit more width to the jacket. This might make it more comfortable when sitting, but for me, as I will be actively walking when wearing the jacket, keeping them zipped and snapped closed will provide more protection from the rain. It is definitely heavier than the packable/stowaway rain jacket I currently have, but as stated, I needed more warmth and not just rain protection. I 'm not terribly `` rough '' on clothing so I anticipate this jacket will last me for quite some time.

i use the Helium Rain Jacket in addition to a 700 fill goosedown esp. when i ride out into wilderness. while it will not protect against sheer downpours, it will if you 're under a tree! plus, in conjunction with the puffer i stay super warm and dry while packing small and light. imperative on a horse!

My only critiques are: 1) the top- entry pockets are really hard to get my phone in and out of. The opening is technically big enough but it takes both hands to open the pocket wide enough to jam my large phone through. 2) the front zipper is kind of hard to operate while wearing gloves. Also there 's definitely a pocket on the left forearm for a ski pass- not sure if other reviewers had a different version or what, but mine is not lacking a pass pocket.
