This is a simple, very lightweight windbreaker, that packs into its pocket. It 's somewhat water resistant, and dries quickly, but not waterproof. It 's in my backpack for every hike, and my carryon whenever I travel. It weighs almost nothing and when it 's in it 's pocket turned carry pouch, it 's about the size of a 3 x 5 card and about an 1 '' thick. It even fits in a purse, a fanny pack, and many hydration packs. I always have one on my boats, whether sailing or rowing/kayaking and have been glad to have it hold in my body heat on a chilly airplane, or as a paper thin layer for skiing, both downhill and crosscountry. I bought this for my trip to Scotland and it performed well in the torrential rain and wind I experienced in the Hebrides. I only dislike 2 things about this: The first is the hood. There is not a drawstring to tighten the hood, and the it was no match for the gale force winds I experienced, and the embedded odor in the jacket material, despite several pre- departure washings, and hanging it separately from my other clothing. I just washed it again, twice, and the odor is still as strong and noxious as when I took it out of the packaging. Otherwise, I remained dry from the neck down, the jacket was very breathable, and I was covered to my knees and dry.

I have been on the hunt for a longer raincoat that covers my rear. I have a `` regular '' length Columbia raincoat that I love. This one is great and will be in heavy rotation. I got the Greenscape color. I am 5' 5 '' and wear a women 's 16. I got an XXL to be able to wear a sweatshirt or sweater under it. It is generously sized. I might have been able to go XL. I knocked a star off for 2 things that others have raised here. The hood is pretty much useless as it either falls in your eyes or flops backwards. Point 2 is that in my other Columbia rain jacket you can tighten the cuffs with a strap to stop water or wind from blowing up your sleeve. The Weekend Adventure has one snap that tightens the cuff by about an inch. That is not going to keep water or wind out.

I got this for an upcoming trip to Ireland. I am 5' 1 '' and a size 25 waist but I got a size S so I can still wear sweaters underneath. It 's so cute and exactly what I was looking for! So far I 've worn it during heavy rain while walking my dog and I stayed completely dry. I like the little flap on the hood so rain does n't get in your face as easily. I like the adjustable waist and hood. I would 've preferred buttons or some other way to secure the front flap as opposed to the velcro but it is n't that big of a deal to me. It feels well made and is warm without making me hot. It does look like a heavier coat because of the insolation but it 's pretty light.

i use the Helium Rain Jacket in addition to a 700 fill goosedown esp. when i ride out into wilderness. while it will not protect against sheer downpours, it will if you 're under a tree! plus, in conjunction with the puffer i stay super warm and dry while packing small and light. imperative on a horse!

Since it ’s cropped it rests right at my hips and I have plenty of room to move around in it. It is a little big on my shoulders but I wouldn ’ t size down to a M. It ’s super comfy and warm, and I love the colors.

I love the green on the jacket but I wish it was a different color ONLY because my complexion is pale and the reflection of the green against my skin makes my skin look dull and washed out.
