Very effective compression short-- used with or without the cup. The inner jockstrap holds the cup in place effectively, though it can be worn without the cup and provides great support. [ I have three pair of these and they 're my favorite underwear. One of them seems to have been sewn slightly different as it fit just a little different and felt like it was riding up for the first few weeks or so, but it eventually broke in and now feels the same as the other two. These are pricey for underwear but a fair price for something that's Merino and built to last. My oldest pair is 4 years old and shows no sign of wear. I treat them well- I do n't over wear them, wash only in cold water, and hang dry.
