I am new to salmon fishing and I wanted a pole that could handle a King Salmon. I have used okuma in the past with good results. The only things wrong with this one are the foregrip is n't triangular as the description says as well as the reel isnt gold colored as in the picture. My girlfried used it fluke fishing and the only thing she did n't like was the right hand retrieve. I purchased a left hand retrieve rival reel for when she goes. Its probably more of a Medium light rod to be honest but its my go to for finesse techniques like drop shot or tubes on the river. I 've got several ugly stiks and this rod is also really nice. First of all, it's a fast action rod which means the top 1/3 bends and the rest offers really strong backbone. It's specially great for offshore/boat fishing for rockfish, ling, hamachi, yellowfin, halibut, and striper. Also I love the one piece stainless steel guide rings. No need to worry about cracked ceramic. One thing would be great is having a bottom( butt) cap like Ugly Stik jigging rod. But it's not an issue at all. Anyways, it feets good and sturdy. I used this for a week long fishing trip and it exceeded expectations. It was durable and versatile in use from walleye, northern, bass and even lake trout fishing with a slab! It was strong yet sensitive enough where I could feel the difference between bottom and bite and even when my spinners were spinning. Handle was also a perfect fit and size. It was hard finding a 7ft heavy pole spinning in a brand you trust. ALSO their packaging and shipping was too notch. As an avid angler ordering poles online can be a NIGHTMARE but I was soo excited to see that they shipped it appropriately.

I bought this combo for Salmon fishing. I hooked up many fishes last year and was able to drag them to shore. Rod has all the power to maneuver the fish easy. The reel equipped with has issues. It had line going under the spool while reeling back and wasted lot of time trying to fix it and the ant reverse broke after using it for two days straight fishing. I replaced the reel with Quantum Optix 4000 this year and landed( beached some) good number of fish. I recommend to just buy the rod alone. Dicks Sporting Goods

I just got mine in the mail today and did not expect to be comparing it to my St Croix musky Rods but it is very comparable. I love the extended handle, which is a rare, but useful feature.
