So, that day I went and bought these and have no regrets. There two layers, a glove inside of a mitten, so you can use hand warmers and keep your palms and fingers warm. There is also a zipper pouch to put a hand warmer on the back of your hand if you need the heat there. I work outside throughout the winter and the hardest thing to do is keep my fingers warm when it gets 20 degrees or less. I decided to try these mittens for the times I do n't need fingers( gloves). They are excellent. I added a Hot Hands hand warmer to each mitten and they kept my fingers toasty. White Mountains 21°F with 5- 10mph winds these gloves worked well as long as you keep active. My fingers were cool but not freezing cold( without liner gloves). My hands did not sweat like in normal gloves. People expecting toasty warm fingers might want to pair these gloves with a thin liner glove. These gloves are thicker than a liner glove but thin and light enough to fit in your jacket pocket. Sizing is perfect. In most gloves a Med is tight but fits perfectly and a Large leaves extra room in the finger tips. These gloves in Med fit almost perfect and leave room for a light weight liner glove.

They get the job done in generally wet or cold conditions, but not sure how they would handle in the extreme conditions. I did not dunk them in water, but I fell several times and the wet never got through and if synched right, water/snow would not come in the glove at the wrist, but only if I synced them right. It was fine in the cold when it was in the teens, but once it got below 10 degrees F, I felt the cold. I can only assume that is just the way it is, but I did have high expectations of these. For the cost, I would definitely get these again. I was a little disappointed that I had to get the wrist straps and leather balm separately, so part of me regrets not shelling out more to get that included, but also possibly the inserts in the higher end item.

Enter the Black Diamond Mission MX mittens and all I can say is let ’s go outside, and bring on the snow. First of all, this is the first xs mitten that really is extra small and fits me. There ’s loads of insulation but they ’ re not too bulky( they work great with ski poles and trekking poles and give me enough dexterity to make snow balls). I 've been using these for cold weather biking. They are warm, slightly wind resistant and there is no seam along the inside of the thumb and palm so there's no pressure point when gripping handlebars. Unexpected but great feature. Just right. Also good for general use in cold, but not frigid temperatures. Great contoured fit.

This glove felt a full size smaller than the same size in the sensor stormtracker and sensor 150 merino liner. Overall it seemed to be a nice glove for active use. There was more insulation on the palm than I was expecting. I would likely be comfortable using these for aerobic cross country skiing down to 20F but run a bit warmer than average.
