I am new to salmon fishing and I wanted a pole that could handle a King Salmon. My son and I both used this combo last week spooled with 14 lb. fluorocarbon and we were both able to land a tackle busting King Salmon using them. One of the kings was well over 20 lbs.( not sure of the exact weight because we only had a 20 lb. scale). I ordered this originally in February and instead of receiving the item I ordered( 10ft MH) i got a Marathon Fathom rod... after complaining to customer service, they sent me out a new one.... now of course, the rod I received was only 9ft and not the 10ft I ordered. Dicks still has n't given me the product I originally ordered. However, the 9ft performed exactly how I thought it would. and it was awesome. It threw 4oz with a chunk of clam at least 80yrds with ease. Handled bringing in two schoolie stripers 26and 27 '' perfectly. I plan on buying another one... just hope I actually get what I order this time.

It had line going under the spool while reeling back and wasted lot of time trying to fix it and the ant reverse broke after using it for two days straight fishing. This product works great, i have it rigged up with 500 ’ of 30# mono backing, 100 ’ of 45# blood run copper trolling line and a 100 ’ leader with room to spare. The clicker is nice and crisp, and it is absolutely perfect for pulling a 12 ” ninja trolling board. Lots of kings and coho have been landed with this unit. This will also hold 8- 10 color leadcore with the same amount of backing and leader without a problem.

No need to worry about cracked ceramic. One thing would be great is having a bottom( butt) cap like Ugly Stik jigging rod. But it's not an issue at all. Anyways, it feets good and sturdy. I have landed 15 king salmon on this combo with 15lb braided power pro main lines 12 lb leader with slip bobber setup running skein it handles the big boys great! I have loaded this rod up WAAAAY beyond my expectations horsing 17- 22 lb king salmon with no signs of conserning stress it always seems like it could handle even more, this was my buggest fear buying this setup as the reel I knew was good but the rod is great too!!
