Material is heavy and I think it will soften perfectly with time and washes. Zipper is high quality and the lining adds a nice amount of warmth without feeling bulky. I typically wear a small and although this cut is roomy it does n't feel boxy and fits well in the arms and shoulders. The best part is all the functional pockets! I have to start off and say I really appreciate the quality that goes into these bibs, there have been numerous improvements and upgrades to the older design. They have a relief cut into the pocket to hang a tape measure on either side. The front of the bib pockets are much more usable now, especially with the large zip pocket. Love this vest. It's my 3 rd one because I wear them almost every day from October through May here in Maine. I get about 2 years out of them. My last one had 2 of the 3 zippers fail within a week of each other but it was getting a bit thread worn so needed replacing anyway. I am 5'11 '' tall and weigh 175- 180 and wear a small.
