Nike Elite Backpack — Fell Apart After 3 Weeks

We bought the Nike Elite backpack as a splurge for an excited high schooler, expecting that a much more expensive backpack would actually be built to last. Unfortunately, it has been a huge letdown. After only three weeks, the stitching on the back came undone approximately 3 inches across the seam when my child was simply running with the backpack on. This wasn’t some extreme situation or unusual abuse of the bag. If this backpack is designed for everyday use by active kids, it should absolutely be able to handle something as simple as running while wearing it without the seams coming apart. And honestly, isn’t this part of what we’re paying for with a Nike backpack? Nike is an athletic brand, and a backpack being used by a high schooler should be expected to handle normal activity. We weren’t asking it to survive some crazy situation—it was literally being worn while running. The zippers also already feel like they won’t last. For the price Nike charges, that’s completely unacceptable. What makes it even more frustrating is that we previously bought a $30 JanSport that lasted five years with absolutely no issues. We spent significantly more on the Nike thinking we were getting better quality, and we regret it. I wish I had listened to the reviews mentioning durability problems. I honestly assumed those people must have been unusually rough on their backpacks. Turns out, it doesn’t take much at all for these to start falling apart. We also reached out to Nike and got no meaningful help. When you’re paying a premium price for a product from a major athletic brand, you should be able to expect more than three weeks of durability. Don’t waste your money. The disappointment of watching an excited kid’s expensive new backpack fall apart almost immediately isn’t worth it. We should have bought another $30 JanSport.

This is the perfect backpack for my son in middle school. There’s an inside sleeve for his laptop and the bottom zipper is perfect for him to put his PE clothes. Very spacious and stylish. He is able to fit a 1 1/2 inch binder along with several books and his lunchbox. Water bottle side pockets very convenient. He loves the gray because he matches them with his sneakers.

I absolutely love this Nike Varsity Elite Backpack! It’s spacious, sturdy, and has plenty of room for everything you need without feeling overly bulky. I really like all of the compartments and pockets, which make it easy to keep everything organized. The quality is excellent, and the straps are comfortable even when the backpack is packed full.
