Since it's the middle of winter in Alaska, I haven't had a chance to nail salmon with this reel yet but I can say that Dicks was solid in their price and responsive shipping. Can't wait for the run to start.

Smooth & Lightweight

Own this for a couple of weeks. Spoiled with 300 yds of braid & a pleasures to use. Looking forward to many years & many more fish!!!

Worth Every Penny

Great for bridge or pier fishing, had this reel 14 years now. The button to release the spol just quit working...14 years of great use and hard fishing. I got my moneys worth and then some. Getting another Shimano to replace, may try the Cardiff this time, save a few dollars. I know they will last 10 or more years with regular cleaning.

Little Work Horse.

I have owned my Calcutta 400 for 5 years now and it works like a horse.....very reliable, looks and works great,The reel drag is perfect and cast very well also, I mainly use this for Salmon fishing uKlamath River in California and also for Striper fishing in the Delta.....u just can't go wrong !!!

Paid For New Reel. Shipped Me A Used Reel.

The reel looked like it had been previously spooled. Did not come with a box, manual, tools, or wrench. Looked like my new reel was a demo reel.Returned the reel. not sure how it performed.

The Proverbial Brick Public Amenity Shed

I bought my Calcutta in the mid-80's to replace the Bantam on my Shimano combo from the late 70's. The Bantam looked good but was not balanced with the Kevlar/graphite heavy action Colfor rod. I needed something hardcore for fishing from a parked navy destroyer. I caught bait fish with my Calcutta and I caught shark and barracuda and grouper and aquarium quality fish and SCUBA diver. Mine was silver, not gold but worth that much to me. Best $80 I spent on a baitcasting reel! Look what you guys will have to pay for yours now! :-P

Love This Reel

I've owned several of these Calcuttas and love em...So smooth and very little maintainence. Just chunk and reel. Good price and a great value. Matt was very attentive and professional and didn't try to sway me to buy anything other than what I was looking for.

Can't Beat This Reel

I've had two of these reels for about 12 years, and they both have been used extensively in all weather conditions. I will never part with these reels. They have proven themselves worthy time and time again. The reels are solid and well constructed, bearings are very smooth, casting is superior, adjustments are very user friendly. Plus, they're really nice looking, for what that's worth.
