I stopped playing tennis in my early 60's after breaking an ankle. I purchase two of these braces and am now back on the court playing singles at age 75. My Ortho doc told me what I needed to buy after wearing a cam walker boot for 6 weeks and told me to go to Dicks Sporting Goods to get it. Amazingly they just got the new product in the day before and the rep from the company had given a presentation to some of the staff. So, when looking for the correct size for the correct ankle one of the staff knew they had more in a box in the back. This ankle brace has elastic support which helps to prevent swelling, hard plastic sides( like armor) that rotate to help make it easy to apply as well as to hug your ankle bone and prevent twisting the ankle in the wrong direction. I bought this a couple weeks ago as I tore the medial ligament in my left foot. This brace really does prevent the lateral rotation of my foot, and it is actually pretty comfortable, especially since it uses two hard plastic pieces to stabilize the ankle. It ’s a little big so I have been mostly wearing sandals with it rather than shoes, but I can still wear sambas with it when needed, they just stretch the shoe width a little.

I was very skeptical about buying this at first because I mainly use ice when doing cold therapy on my ankle. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how this compression boot was able to properly ice my ankle! It was almost like having ice on it! I am a basketball player who works out 5- 7 times a week and I 've had multiple ankle injuries. This compression boot does a great job of icing everything from the mid calf down to the sides of the ankle. It does not have an ice pack going under the bottom foot part though in case anyone was wondering. HOWEVER!! Be very careful when icing with this! I accidentally did not put one of the ice packs all the way into the inner sleeve of the compression boot and I iced for 20 minutes with part of the ice pack in direct contact of my skin. Because of this I got mild ice pack burn!! It is n't that painful but I can imagine it would have been much worse if I had continued icing past 20 minutes! While there are protective sleeves inside the boot to hold the ice pack, it's important not to ice for over 20 minutes because you can end up getting an ice pack burn! This is because ice packs stay cooler longer than ice and is colder than it ice is too! That is my little tidbit of advice for anyone buying this! But overall I 'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for an easier icing session and it's one of the best investments I 've made!

I kept all ice packs in freezer for 2 hours. They were very cold but flexible enough to place in neoprene pouches. I placed a tshirt between my skin and the brace because the ice packs are very, very, very cold. Sizing was not easy to determine, But overAll a great product!!

I have large calves( I used to play football), so finding things like ankle weights that fit properly is usually a challenge. The straps on these are more than large enough to have plenty of velcro sticking and hold them in place. The padding makes them very comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time... but they do get a little sweaty sometimes. I highly recommend these ankle weights, especially for others like me who have larger legs and calves.
