5 Coach Isaac
Great glove, especially for the price…. Very easy to break in for my son who ’s 8yrs old, fits his hand perfect. Couple of the other kids on his team used his glove and immediately went and bought their own. The only bad part is, he ’ ll grow out of it in about 2- 3yrs because of small opening for the hand, but that ’s what makes this glove perfect for kids.

5 Altsick
Great glove for the price. Easy to squeeze from the beginning. Padded well.

5 Grampajay
Bought for grandson who decided he wanted to try catching like his dad. He wanted to catch 100 balls a day for awhile, and he really likes the glove and the position. The day I bought it, I approached one of the guys asking for a youth catchers mitt. He clicks his phone a little and takes me right to the two choices. THEN he proceeds to toss a few balls to my grandson! He liked the glove. And I appreciate the employee! Thank you Dicks!

4 Bchap
Bought this for new 10 year old. So far I like it a lot. Good pocket seems to collect well. Shape is well formed and holds. It is reasonably quick to break in but clearly has some less supple leather than the premium version. Hard to tell though. It ’s on the smaller side of gloves. Good for 9- 12 year old probably. Smaller size good for youth. Able to fit my adult hand tight but would not fit a large adult hand.

4 Tangerine
Great quality and design, but slow to break in even after steaming and oiling. Further, while the pocket comes preformed, it was difficult early on to secure the ball in the pocket. Ultimately took about a month of consistent use to break it in where the ball would remain in the pocket.

4 slickwilly
Bought this mitt as my son was asked if he would like to try catcher. So far this mitt is perfect as an entry level glove. Did not want to spend a lot of money on it but also felt that if he really enjoyed catching we wanted one that was well built and would last.

5 Grandson gift
I purchased the A500 as a gift for my grandson. He plays catcher on a U9 select baseball team and wanted his own mitt. He has spent hours working on the pocket and breaking it in, and has even watched YouTube videos on how to break in a catcher ’s mitt. He is very happy with it, which makes me happy as well.

5 Annier
[ I recently purchased this Wilson red catcher ’s glove, and I couldn ’ t be happier with it. First of all, the look is absolutely beautiful. The red color really stands out and looks even better in person. It feels premium and very well made, just what you expect from Wilson. The size is exactly as described, which was very important to me. It fits great and feels secure on the hand. Although the glove is a bit stiff out of the box, it has been breaking in faster than expected with regular use and shaping. You can really tell the leather quality is there. Overall, this is an excellent catcher ’s glove with great craftsmanship, solid structure, and an amazing visual design. I ’ m very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and great- looking catcher ’s glove.

I would n't be so quick to hate on this mitt for your kid. We have the A500 version of this glove, which be bought off Am* zon in October 2019. After a solid 2 seasons, spring and summer of splitting the catching duties, it was finally broken in. It is nicely constructed and mostly all leather( or leather- type) material. No fleece linings. Sturdy enough. Now that we are approaching spring 2022 and my kid will be 11, he can start the season with this. We are getting a backup to break in as only now the padding seems to be wearing thin and bigger kids throw harder.

Frequently Asked Questions For Baseball Mitts for Beginners

When selecting a baseball mitt for beginners, consider features like the size, which should be appropriate for the player's age and hand size. A lightweight design can enhance comfort and ease of use, while a soft leather or synthetic material helps with break-in time. Additionally, look for a mitt with a good pocket depth to help secure the ball.

The best size for a beginner's baseball mitt typically ranges from 11 to 12.5 inches, depending on the player's age and position. Younger players often benefit from smaller mitts that are easier to handle, while older beginners may prefer larger sizes for better coverage. It's important to try on different sizes to find the most comfortable fit.

Yes, beginner baseball mitts are often made from synthetic materials or softer leather, which provide a good balance of durability and ease of use. Synthetic mitts are generally more affordable and require less break-in time, while softer leather mitts offer better comfort and performance as players develop their skills. Choosing the right material can enhance the overall experience for beginners.

The break-in period is quite important for a baseball mitt, especially for beginners who may struggle with stiff gloves. A well-broken-in mitt allows for better flexibility and easier catching, which can boost a beginner's confidence. Many mitts designed for beginners come with materials that facilitate a quicker break-in process.

Different positions in baseball often require specific mitt styles. For example, first basemen typically use larger mitts with a deeper pocket to help catch throws, while infielders may prefer smaller, more maneuverable mitts. Beginners should consider their preferred position when selecting a mitt to ensure it meets the demands of their role on the field.

While a beginner can technically use a baseball mitt designed for older players, it may not be the best choice. Larger mitts can be cumbersome and difficult to handle for younger or less experienced players, potentially hindering their development. It's generally recommended to choose a mitt that is specifically designed for beginners to ensure comfort and ease of use.
