[ For a few years now the only socks I run in are Smartwool. Other similar brands pinch my toes together too tight but Smartwool does n't so I wo n't even look elsewhere. In previous winters I run with targeted cushion mid crew run socks. I did n't even know this cold weather sock existed until last week when I ordered it. I did n't expect it to actually make a difference but it totally DID! The initial cold top of my foot did n't happen. The occasional cold toes did n't happen. I swear these are n't any thicker than my other Smartwool Targeted Cushion Run socks but somehow they are warmer! My only wish is that they came mid- crew size instead of full crew since I have wide calves and these pinch a tad. I never would have bought a full crew sock if it was n't the only option, and this is probably why I never noticed the product before. In the last two days with my new socks I ran a 15k and a 5k in 40F weather. The lowest I tend to run in is 30F but I do n't look forward to that temp. With these socks I will look forward to the next cold day because I ca n't wait to find out if my feet stay warm at that temp, too.

The fit is great overall, maybe a tiny bit large but nothing to complain about as the XL is intended to cover a range of foot sizes. I may choose a thinner sock for the hotter days, but more often than not, I will be reaching for this sock, especially on my longer runs. Five stars, two thumbs up. Love these ankle socks from SmartWool. The opening in not super snug so feels good at the end of the day. I wish there were more patterns to choose from; I would buy them all!

I bought these socks for cold days and they fit my 7. 5 foot fine. So many wool socks have crazy colors for women which wo n't do at work. These will work fine under brown or tan since they are that color.
