My wife has had this helmet for several years. She wore it pretty regularly until this past summer. Last year she decided that helmets were unnecessary and did not really provide much protection and that their effectiveness was overrated. I never wore a helmet so it was no concern to me. I really wanted a helmet with MIPS, and liked the look and comfort of this helmet( sleeker than the original Isode), but simply could n't make it fit. The straps are sewn at a fixed point where they meet under the ear, rather than having an adjustable clip as most other helmets do. When the chin clip was adjusted to the correct length, the front strap came down an inch in front of my ears, and the `` Y joint '' was at my jaw rather than under my ears. The strap system pulls through the back, so all Giro needed to do was add a clip under the ear on the right side. The straps are softer than on cheaper models, adding to the comfort factor. If only it could be made to fit.

This is both my first Giro brand helmet and my first MIPS technology helmet. I like how Giro has the side straps set already so that's two less buckles to adjust and loosen on their own. Coming from Bell helmets I had to get used to adjusting the straps by pulling to center them each wear no biggie for better comfort. Speaking of comfort the dial to tighten in the back is much better than Bell helmets. The MIPS technology allows the helmet to move slightly while staying right to your head to reduce injury in a collision. As a former racer, courier, and bicycle commuter I can feel how that would help. I hope I never need it Overall the best helmet I 've ever owned.

It ’s very lightweight and with the various sizes of cheek pads and headliner I was able to custom fit it to my liking. First ride with this was a full day at a bike park. The Ignite is a great helmet. The shape and fit of the helmet works well with my headshape. A key feature for me is the integration of the helmet with Smith's sunglasses. Being able to stow glasses away in the vents and having confidence that they then wo n't fall out is a huge win in my book. I went through many combinations and returns before finding the Smith combination of helmet and glasses. Love it! Fits my head shape better than my previous forefront, a bit wider around the sides. Less koroid on top maybe breathes better but higher risk of bees getting in. MIPS internal is nice and discrete. The sun glasses slot seems to work better then the forefront also.
