My eyesight is n't what it once was. I can thread tippet fine with good light, but on cloudy days or when the sun is going down, I have trouble getting it in the eye. This leads to frustration and wasted time making multiple attempts to thread a fly. I was in VT on vacation, and happened to pop into the Dick's there, and saw this little tool on the shelf. I figured what the heck I 'll give it a try. It's one of the best fly fishing purchases I 've ever made. It could n't be easier to thread a fly. Even tiny nymphs. You just put the eye on one end and a magnet holds it up right, run your tippet down the groove, and voila right through the eye. It's so simple and I have a 99% success rate threading a fly on the first try! So much wasted time saved stabbing tippet getting out magnifiers etc. What a great idea and US made to boot. There's lot's of gimmick tools available in the fly fishing world, but this is n't one of them, it honestly works as advertised. Highly recommend for your vest!

Fly tying thread is a specialized type of thread used in the construction of artificial flies for fishing. It serves to hold materials in place while creating the fly pattern, ensuring that all components are securely attached. The strength and durability of the thread are crucial for withstanding the stresses of casting and catching fish.
Fly tying thread comes in various types, including flat, round, and specialty threads made from materials like nylon, polyester, and Kevlar. Each type offers different benefits, such as varying thicknesses and strengths, allowing anglers to choose the best option for their specific fly patterns and fishing conditions. The choice of thread can affect the overall appearance and functionality of the flies.
Choosing the right fly tying thread depends on several factors, including the type of fly you are tying, the materials you are using, and the desired strength. Thicker threads may be more suitable for larger flies or when using heavy materials, while finer threads are ideal for delicate patterns. Consider the color and texture as well, as these can impact the final look of your fly.
Yes, fly tying thread can be used for a wide range of fishing flies, including dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, and streamers. The key is to select the appropriate thread type and size based on the specific fly pattern and its intended use. Different flies may require different thread characteristics to achieve the best results.
When looking for durable fly tying thread, consider factors such as tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and the material used. High-quality threads are designed to withstand the rigors of fishing without breaking or fraying easily. Additionally, threads that maintain their integrity under varying conditions, such as wetness or exposure to fish, are ideal for long-lasting performance.
