Got this a month ago for Mora 6 ” hand auger. A little pricey but worth it. Used a couple times now with an old craftsman 19. 2 V cordless drill. Drilled a dozen holes thru 10 ” ice no problem. 5 Iceman!
I used a Milwaukee M18 drill and it would bore a hole just as fast as a gas one, maybe even faster with its instant torque. And it's super light which I really like.

Frequently Asked Questions For Ice Hole Drills

When selecting an ice hole drill, consider features such as the drill's power source, weight, and the size of the auger bit. A cordless option may offer greater mobility, while a lightweight design can make it easier to transport. Additionally, look for features like a centering point for precision and a durable construction to withstand cold conditions.

Ice hole drills are typically made from high-strength materials such as steel or aluminum for the auger bits, which provide durability and resistance to corrosion. The handles and other components may be made from lightweight plastics or composites to reduce overall weight while maintaining strength. It's important to choose a drill with materials that can endure harsh winter conditions.

Ice hole drills come in various types, including manual, electric, and gas-powered options, each suited for different fishing conditions. Manual drills are often lighter and more portable, making them ideal for casual anglers, while electric and gas-powered drills can handle thicker ice and are preferred for more serious ice fishing. Consider the ice thickness and your fishing style when choosing a drill.

The size of the auger bit directly impacts the size of the hole you can create in the ice, which can affect your fishing experience. Larger bits allow for bigger holes, accommodating larger fish and multiple lines, while smaller bits are easier to handle and require less effort to drill. Consider the type of fish you are targeting and the number of lines you plan to use when selecting the auger size.

The weight of an ice hole drill is crucial for portability and ease of use. Lighter drills are easier to transport and maneuver, especially when moving between fishing spots. However, it's important to balance weight with durability and power; a drill that is too light may not perform well in thicker ice.

Yes, ice hole drills can be versatile tools for various winter activities beyond ice fishing. They can be used for creating holes for winter camping, setting up ice shelters, or even for scientific research purposes. Their ability to penetrate ice makes them useful in any situation where access to the water beneath the ice is needed.
