I bought this for a 60ish mile canoe trip some 20 or so of my friends and I do every year. I 've never taken a PFD on this trip in previous years because it's typically low water. But we had gotten a boatload( see what I did there) of rain and the water was raging so I thought I should pick one up in a hurry. This was a rush buy, but it turned out to be far more comfortable than I had imagined. I hardly noticed I was wearing it even after having it on for 10+ hours a day. The pockets make it very convenient to have smaller items readily accessible on my chest. Unfortunately, on day 3 during a moderate rescue, I left the jacket on the river bank and finished the trip without it. And although this would n't be my first choice for white water, I will still buy another one because I liked it so much.

This vest is comfortable for my kids to wear all day on the boat. They have good range of movement and are still able to fish. And if they are swimming with this vest on, it seems very buoyant and keeps them upright. Some vests tend to make the kids lean forward with face towards water.

I wanted a new life jacket for our fishing boat, as I am not really a swimmer and we are on the water usually at least two times a week during boating weather. This is cut for a woman, so it fits better than others I have worn, and it was very reasonably priced. It has a thin back and is n't super bulky. I run a busy rental outfit. Our guests come in all shapes and sizes. The Outfitter Universal is our go to pfd. It fits pretty much all adults the big ones down to the 125 pounders. The 6 adjustable straps are long enabling us to fit the bigger guests and they cinch down to smaller chests( 125 pound). One of the great uses of the 6 adjustable straps is our guest bodies often are not the athletic types. Some are big up top, some big in the middle and some are big down lower. The 6 straps allow proper fit no matter where the space is needed. Another plus to the Outfitter Universal is it's easy to get the paddler some ventilation on hot days. The jacket rides well on the body allowing for day long comfortable paddling. We can buy any pfd and continue to use 150 of the Outfitter Universal. Hope you check them out. Oh, and, for the private boat owner that has a variety of people using their boat this is a great choice for pfd as they will fit most all of them properly meaning they are more likely to wear it. You have the confidence that if they do go for a swim they will be floating properly. Cheers, River of Golden Dreams, Whistler BC Canada

This is the same PFD used and strongly endorsed by a local west coast kayak shop. It was ordered on line 8- 29- 15, given an ETA 9- 4 to 9- 11, and received at rural Post Office 9- 5- 15( the free shipping on orders over$ 25. 00 was a bonus). Sizing( L/XL) is good and very adjustable. Flotation support is excellent for 215 pound male. Straps, buckles, zipper are sturdy and lock up. Design is quite comfortable with no choking or chafing over 3. 5 hour paddle. The Charcoal/Kiwi was ordered which is not only quite visible, but also smart looking for those paddlers with an interest in style. Of course life saving flotation support is the primary consideration, followed by paddling comfort. This PFD is excellent in both categories. On line ordering, email follow ups, shipment tracking, and package invoicing were all excellent.

I have been nervous about buying a life vest because I do n't know what size I needed. I asked one of your employees he was working in the bicycle section. He ended up being the right guy to ask for help with the life vest. He used to work for the coast guard. He told me I picked the right vest for what I wanted it for and it was the right fit. I love the colors and the fit of this life vest.

As an avid dragon boat and outrigger canoe paddler, safety is important. It came to my attention my prior PFD was too large to be effective in case of emergency. I found not one, but three different XS vests to choose from, and went with the mid- priced Onyx Airspan Breeze. It's perfect! An added bonus is the pockets are actually usable! I had expected them to be too small, but they are more than roomy enough for keys, wallet, small phone, etc., which I slip in after bagging in plastic, just to be sure they stay dry. Overall, I 'm VERY HAPPY with this purchase and highly recommend this vest, especially if you are looking for one that comes in a size that is safe and effective for those of us smaller in stature( 5' tall& 95 lbs). Well done, Onyx!

[ I ’ ve used this little stick of dynamited now a real life rescue on the Arkansas in high water where I needed to get to my bag fast. This should not however be your only throw line if you ’ re running a larger craft, but makes a great supplement to a longer, more robust line. On thing I would add is that there is ample belt length. To much for most people and you will want to cut off the excess( hot knife) Your local climbing shop should do this for you for free if they ’ re cool. Maybe pick up a dedicated “ z- drag ” line while you ’ re there. I recommend static line as the rope in your throw bag is dynamic and will lose some of its stretch( which you want when it ’s time to go fishing for your buddies) if you use it for unpinning a “ wrapped ” boat. The main negative thing is that the position of the safety release on the belt is not adjustable and will be in an awkward( and maybe hard to get to) if you choose to ware this puppy “ appendix carry ” which I do when paddling a ducky. As with most things, this can be overcome with practice. In closing, get proper instruction, make practicing rescue skills a regular part of your time on the water. Someone ’s life could be in the balance. Thanks for reading my book

[ My wife and I just recently purchased an inflatable kayak and were looking for a set of pfd ’s. After an extensive search, both online and in retail stores, we decided on purchasing a pair of these. We were not disappointed!! The price was right, the quality great and they look and feel nice as well. My wife is still getting used to the side entry( as opposed to a front zip or clip) but has come to appreciate them not being in front of her where they might occasionally snag on something. Overall, we are completely satisfied with all aspects of this item!!

If you are looking for a great PFD, then look no further than the Lure Angler 2 PFD from Old Town. River Knight Steve
As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I 've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... sturdy frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks& boats. For two years now I have been using 2 sets of these Malone J- Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. I 've transported boats hundreds of miles to upstate NY and New England at highway speeds without a problem with them. Getting the racks folded or locked upright back into place for use is very easy and can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I also like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on the SUV when I do n't have a boat loaded and have the racks folded... also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more than the stationary racks, you should shop around for a deal on this type of Malone fold- down racks.

For beginners, essential kayaking safety gear includes personal flotation devices (PFDs), which are crucial for staying afloat in case of capsizing. Additionally, a whistle or signaling device can be important for communication in emergencies. A spray skirt can help keep water out of the kayak, and a first aid kit is advisable for any unexpected injuries.
When choosing a personal flotation device for kayaking, consider factors such as fit, comfort, and intended use. Look for a PFD that is specifically designed for kayaking, as these often provide better mobility and features like pockets for gear. It's also important to ensure that the vest is rated for your weight and that it meets safety standards.
Key features to look for in kayaking safety gear include buoyancy rating, adjustability, and comfort. Many PFDs come with adjustable straps to ensure a snug fit, while additional features like pockets, reflective strips, and quick-release buckles can enhance functionality and safety. Consider the type of kayaking you will be doing, as some gear may be better suited for recreational use versus more challenging conditions.
Yes, kayaking safety gear is specifically designed to accommodate the different sizes and weights of children and adults. Children's PFDs are typically smaller and lighter, ensuring they provide adequate buoyancy without hindering movement. It's crucial to select safety gear that is appropriately sized for the user to ensure maximum effectiveness and comfort.
Kayaking safety gear should be regularly inspected for wear and tear, and it is advisable to replace it every few years or sooner if it shows signs of damage. PFDs, in particular, can degrade over time due to exposure to sun, saltwater, and chlorine. Always check for proper buoyancy and fit before each use to ensure your safety gear is still effective.
