Our town in NH only allows fires of out size to be cooking fires before 5 pm. We decided to start cooking breakfast over the fire. We use this with a cast iron skillet and griddle to make all sorts of breakfast foods. This fits perfect over our fire pit and works exactly as expected. We do store it in the garage so it does not rust. I have noticed some warping due to the high heat but that hasn ’ t ruined the product for what we use it for.

The Bonfire is a great fire pit but right from the start I wanted a screen to control sparks. I looked at third party screens but was not overly impressed for the price being asked. This screen has some really great features including the lift off center ring and tools that make removing the screen very secure. It's a good value. The only snag was that the screen requires its own fire ring and the original does not fit. When I called I was told that the newly designed ring should have been included in my order. Well people make mistakes but what's important is how those mistakes are addressed. I literally had the correct ring on my doorstep in about 24 hours after my call. I 'm in Virginia and this shipped from Pennsylvania so your experience might vary. The thing is they had shipped the ring within hours of my call. Way to go SOLO!

Being cast iron this grill retains and radiates heat incredibly well and allows for two grate settings. You can use the legs or if you need a hotter cook just flip the grate over and by lowering it you put your food that much closer to the coals. I used lump charcoal for my first cook and this grill did an excellent job and is easily going to be the perfect side kick to my sous vide cooks that need a sear. The grate is an improvement to the Lodge Sportsman in many ways. First it has no logo which in my opinion allows for more searing space. Second the grates are ribbed which easily help hold foods that are prone to rolling around loke hot dogs in place. The ribbed grates also provide excellent sear marks, which lets be honest, you don ’ t get full on fancy, but a visually appealing meal is always fun. You can use this grill for hot dogs and hamburgers or use it as a hibachi grill and everyone can cook their own meat on it.
