[ As a coach I have not been a fan of sliding mitts but my 11u team kept asking if they could use them. So, we made a deal, win a tournament and they could use them. Well, they did just that, so I had to hold up my end of the bargain. I researched and got my son the shorty mitt and its perfect for youth players. This mitt goes on just like a batting glove quick and easy. By removing the long strap, it decreases the distraction and allows the players to quickly put it on and get their sign from the 3rd base coach plus take their lead. As a coach, if your youth players are asking for sliding mitts, you have to go with the shorty.

I bought this for my son who plays HS baseball. As a catcher he's had several different catcher's mitts, everything from an old beat up Rawlings to a brand new Wilson A2000. This Rawlings GG Elite Catcher's mitt is his favorite glove. That said he's never owned a high end Rawling Catcher's glove. As a side note he has two Rawlings REV1X gloves and they are amazing! Rawlings makes a good glove. He steamed it at Dick's and it broke in quickly, later that day he used it in- game. It performed flawlessly and I could tell he was more confident behind the plate. It's also internally wider than the A2000 and secures the baseball very well. Even I could catch( balls thrown over my head) with no issues. I wish we bought this glove sooner. If he continues catching into college, his next catchers mitt would be a higher end Rawlings and this would become his backup glove. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I think if your daughter is new to catching and you want a great value before spending on a higher end mitt, this is a must have. You would think this glove costs more than a 100 bucks. It's high quality and seems like it will last at least 3 years or more depending on how well we take care of it. It does come to you very stiff so be prepared to break it in. My husband used an old leather oil that turned it dark brown& ruined it. We ended up buying a second glove in the exact same style and were much more careful with a conditioner. I spent two weeks trying to break in the glove and without avail someone suggested I pay someone to get it broken in. So far she has used the now broken in glove in one tournament and she said it felt good. The person who broke in the glove for us suggested to use 2 or 3 fingers in the pinky as the glove doesn ’ t have a pinky loop and my girl said it was still comfortable. So far she likes the glove.
