As an old wrestling coach it is far better to use this when you drill and want to keep track of reps in a drill than for time. Largest fish it's had on was only about 3 pounds so far, so we 'll have to see if it can hold up to a monster. But I like that it floats, is simple to operate and does n't injure/harm the fish in any way.( I only catch and release regardless of species and size. So that's important to me.)

Bought this product for toothed fish primarily. Worked great right off the bat. Caught a 10lb baby northern pike. Handling was easy and much less stress on the fish than handling by hand alone. It grips very well and releases smooth with just the right amount of tension. As for both lanyards it comes with, it is perfect length for the corded to be attached at waist level. The magnetic one you can attach anywhere that is comfortable and easy reach that is out of the way. The magnet also is strong enough that if your within a 6 inch area of the attached magnet, it will start drawing together. Magnet is very secure with no issues of it easily detaching. It just takes a simple deliberate pull and it's ready to use. I did pick up a second one. Bought this last season for striper/wiper fishing. Clip both carabiners to a belt loop- magnet holds the gripper close to your hip, but releases easily when you need it. I bought this rod and reel combo about two weeks ago, as an upgrade to my PENN Fierce IV Surf Combos for my shark surf fishing setup. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. Reel is insanely powerful, and by far one of the best reels you can get out there in the “ middle to expensive ” price range for PENN spinning reels.
