[ My old lady and I have the smart wool top and bottom 250 base layer set. They are exactly what you expect from smart wool. Great quality, the warmth I needed, and pretty useful in most conditions. [ At first these pants feel sort of itchy but once you 're moving around in them it's very comfortable. I first wore them in 35- 40F under normal hiking pants and was too warm while moving. They do regulate body temp well but I wo n't be wearing these hiking unless it's below 35F. I 'm also not a cold bodied person and I move fast.

[ I am an avid walker and must have my daily jaunt or I will go bonkers. I have hiked in all weather from the cold sub temps of Minnesota to the rainy and windy winters of Texas. Having warm thermals are essential. Searching online reviews, Smartwool keeps popping up. My wife and I bought two sets each of tops and bottoms and she just simply loved them instantly When ever the temp dips she gleefully pulls on her Smartwool NTS and a shell and she is out the doors. The material is just the right thickness and the seams are well hidden. It instant warms the body and as claimed, do not smell after a few uses As for durability we have to wait and see. We have other woolen garments and we can see these products appear to be durable. No regrets buying them but regrettably the color choices are limited due to stocks available.

Buttery soft and super breathable essential tights for summer. These are my go to for everyday life. Light enough for the hottest summer days, but with a fine stretchy weave and just enough structure that you don ’ t feel over exposed. Hands down the most comfortable stretchy pants in the lineup!

Sizing is a bit small... I ’ m 5 ’ 3 ” and 100 lbs, and the XS fit perfectly. I normally wear xxs in all things fjallraven. They ’ re snug in a good way, and I never had to adjust or pull them up, even with items in the side pockets. I wore them on a spring hike in the Appalachian mountains that started chilly, got hot by midday, and included rain and wet conditions. They stayed comfortable and dried quickly, even after climbing over wet rocks and navigating muddy trails. The material is breathable, durable, and handled the elements like a champ. If you 're looking for a pair of leggings that can keep up with real outdoor use — these are it.

Went hiking in the Lake District and discovered my abisko tights were too large. Fortunately, I found a Fjallraven vendor and found these tights, which turned out perfect as I need a bit more insulation. I love the feel of these. They kept me warm on some pretty brutal days. They dry quickly. I am absolutely in love with Fjallraven tights, and these are a new favorite.

FjällFox
I think Fjällräven really succeeded it balancing the comfortability of tights with the durability required for trekking in forests. These are a perfect combination of the two- flattering and well fitting tights that hold up to the scuffing and scratching that comes with trekking through a natural environment. They still look brand new after several washes and many many treks. The added warmth is such a nice bonus!

[ Love the way these pants fit! I always love the look of Fjallraven pants, but these aren ’ t as warm as I hoped. I ’ ve used them in lower temps( 20- 30 ’s F) and my legs are cold to the touch. I definitely have less expensive rights that keep my legs warmer.

[ I was skeptical after reading reviews but I really like these tights. The waist is high and seamless and very comfortable. Also doesn ’ t dig in creating muffin top stretchy and warm. Looks great under skirts for winter. Totally recommend. Feels lighter than the coordinating tops. True to size.
Hiking base layer pants are designed to be worn next to the skin, providing a moisture-wicking layer that helps regulate body temperature during outdoor activities. They are essential for maintaining comfort by keeping you dry and warm in varying weather conditions. A good base layer can enhance your overall hiking experience by preventing chafing and allowing for better movement.
Hiking base layer pants are typically made from materials such as merino wool, synthetic fabrics, or blends that offer moisture-wicking properties. Merino wool is known for its natural temperature regulation and odor resistance, while synthetic fabrics are often lightweight and quick-drying. The choice of material can significantly impact comfort and performance during hikes.
When selecting hiking base layer pants, consider the season and climate of your hiking destination. For colder weather, opt for midweight or heavyweight options that provide additional insulation. In warmer conditions, lightweight and breathable fabrics are ideal to keep you cool. Layering is key, so choose pants that can be easily combined with other clothing for optimal comfort.
Key features to consider when choosing hiking base layer pants include moisture-wicking capabilities, breathability, and stretch for mobility. Look for options with flatlock seams to reduce chafing and a snug fit that allows for easy layering. Additionally, consider pants with odor-resistant properties to keep you feeling fresh on longer hikes.
Yes, hiking base layer pants are versatile and can be worn for various outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, or even casual wear. Their moisture-wicking and thermal properties make them suitable for any situation where you need to stay comfortable and dry. Many people also use them for workouts or lounging due to their comfort and flexibility.
Hiking base layer pants are the foundation of a layering system, designed to be worn directly against the skin. They help manage moisture and regulate temperature, making them crucial for comfort. Over the base layer, you can add insulating layers and outer shells depending on the weather, ensuring you stay warm and dry throughout your hike.
