This is my 4th Kayak but my 1st tandem. We purchased it so we would not have to bring so many kayaks for the family to enjoy the sport together. First time out I had my eight- year- old son in front of me and my five- year- old son behind me and I paddled from the center of the kayak. I was able to navigate with no problem with only me paddling and turning was a breeze. It tracks very straight and true. Later in the day I moved to the rear of the kayaked with the five- year- old in the middle and the eight- year- old in the very front. Even when my son in the front got tired of paddling, I was able to control the whole boat from the rear with minimal extra effort. I will be taking this on a camping trip by myself as a solo kayak because I have so much extra room for all my camping gear. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice big solo or a good tandem.

I bought one a couple months ago. My wife and I own several different kayaks. The Rambler is the most stable kayak I have ever tried. I can bring just about anything along that I want; A big cooler, big tackle box, anchor., fishing pole. I bring cushions along. Why? So I can put the seat backrest down and take a nap on this kayak! I take toddlers along and they feel very secure on the kayak. One note, I bought a role of Velcro to put on the seat surfaces so the seat does n't slide around. I just bought a second Rambler to bring my novice friends out with me.

FIRST kayak so do not have anything to compare to all I can say is it is very stable can haul your cooler and wife and still seems easy to paddle. It is easy to get in and out of and no problems hauling in pickup.

Our first kayak and it was great very stable very comforable. We were going to buy two singles then decided to buy a tandem which can be a single. Great choice

My husband and I had two single kayaks and decided on a tandem for river trips. We were looking at much more expensive ones thinking$ 1000. was what we would have to spend on one. We just happened to be walking through Dick's Sporting goods and saw this one. It is an excellent buy at$ 450. and the quality rivals our other two Ocean brand kayaks. It is very stable and tracks nicely.

My wife and I bought this for occasional use on our yearly trip to the mountains. We wanted a tandem kayak and looked online for a used kayak. We are not professional kayakers so we were n't looking for an ultra performance kayak. A lot of the used kayaks online were in horrible condition. The new ones( brand names) were well over$ 1000. So we found this kayak out our local sporting goods store. We 've had this for 3 years now and everything works as brand new. The kayak is 10ft long so it's one of the shorter tandem kayaks, which is a perk for us. We bought seat pads and the stock seat backs work well. As mentioned this is n't the most performance kayak out there, buts it's does n't cost as a performance one does. For occasional trips to the lakes for fun relaxing floating around the water that does n't brake the bank... This is the perfect kayak.

We bought this kayak because we like the feature of two people being able to use it at once. The kids love taking it to the lake and paddling around for hours. We have thought about getting another kayak or even a paddle board from lifetime. Love their products and recommend them all the time.

Our family bought this about a month ago and we have loved using it. It is super easy to guide around the water. There is no fear of tipping over in this thing. We have young kids so we sat 3 on the Kayak no problem.

[ This is my go to fishing craft for the ocean. it has a lot of rocker which helps the boat in choppy conditions. I have paddle every kayak imaginable and this is one of the fastest. Its stable with tone of comfort like tracks and a super comfy seat. I spend up to 8 hrs on the water when I go out. I also guide trips out of this boat. it has a high weight capacity, unmatched bomb proof drive, super fast, and stable. I do n't stand up on this kayak but I am sure you could on a calm lake. My favorite boat from Old Town

[ I love the new colors! I really appreciate the price drop+ new features( front hatch and through hull mount) I got this to replace an Old Town Predator( 2020) I bought used off someone. The Predator was way too big for my small car and was a bit annoying to transport to the beach. This is a foot shorter and 15lbs lighter which does n't sound like much but it feels way better. I ca n't think of a single thing to complain about!

[ My favorite hobby right now! Great for my catfishing ventures.

[ Awesome kayak. Perfect for saltwater fishing. Very fast and stable.

[ Purchased in 2021 and have enjoyed it every chance I get! Generally fish the Great Lakes, and it handles the rougher water and beach launching in the surf very well. The peddle drive makes several miles trips out on the water pretty easy, not to mention keeping your hands free from the paddle. Large rear and front wells are great for the dog/ kids to come along. I can walk it down a few blocks to the lake with a small cart with ease, so it's not too difficult to move around.

After renting this kayak from the local park multiple times, I finally purchased my own. It tracks really well as either a tandem or single( sitting in the middle seat). Foot wells are permanent but clip on seats are adjustable for the ultimate fit. Feels very sturdy and would take a large amount of effort to flip it. Not a lot of storage( I pack light anyway) but comfort and stability more than make up for that. Great kayak for me, my son, and dog, but at 12ft and under 60lbs., it is very manageable for those solo outings too. All around great kayak and would highly recommend.

It blew my mind how comfortable I felt in the middle going solo in adverse conditions. I 've had it in some large surf and some heavily currented waters. Not only did I never have any issues of any kind, I never felt like I was n't in control. It's not ideal for fishing, but it can be achieved with some patience and attention to detail. Paddle on!

Nice heavy duty kayak, yet light enough to be handled by one person. Trails nicely. Do suggest buying a set of scupper plugs though.

This kayak is super stable for one or two people in high surf and great at tracking on waves. I love this kayak for fishing, surfing or just cruising. It is worth every penny and more!!!!!

This is the same one we used while on vacation in Maui and loved it. Dicks was great to work with and ordering it for me. It came to my home as promised. A very good experience.

We purchased both the Connelly Nautic 9. 5& 11. 5 inflatable kayaks for our Spring Break road trip. Both IKs are great overall while providing good tracking and stability for us novice paddlers. With the spacious and comfortable cockpit, zippered dry hatch, and lightweight design, this tandem kayak is perfect for our adventures. The cover, HD hull, and inner cockpit bladder ensure that the kayak is durable and rigid, while the front stabilizing fin and bottom skeg provide great tracking. The kayak has supreior back support for the rear paddler, so long days were comfortable. The bow and stern handles make it easy to carry from the van. Overall, we highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions For Kayak for Family

When selecting a family kayak, consider features that enhance stability and comfort, such as a wider hull design and ample seating space. Look for kayaks with multiple seating configurations to accommodate different family sizes and preferences. Additionally, features like built-in storage compartments and easy entry points can make outings more enjoyable. Opting for lightweight materials can also facilitate transport and handling.

To determine the right size kayak for your family, consider the number of people who will be using it and their combined weight. Tandem kayaks are designed for two paddlers, while larger models can accommodate more. Additionally, think about the type of activities you plan to do, as some kayaks offer more stability and space for gear, which can be beneficial for family outings. It's also important to ensure that the kayak provides enough room for everyone to be comfortable while paddling.

Inflatable kayaks are typically lighter and easier to transport, making them a convenient option for families who may not have a lot of storage space. They can be quickly inflated and deflated, allowing for easy setup and takedown. Hard-shell kayaks, on the other hand, tend to offer more stability and durability on the water, which can be beneficial for families looking for a more robust experience. Each type has its own advantages, so the choice often depends on the family's specific needs and preferences.

A family kayak should typically have a weight capacity that accommodates the combined weight of all passengers and any gear. Many family kayaks are designed to support a range of weights, often between 400 to 600 pounds, allowing for multiple adults and children along with equipment. It's important to consider the total weight to ensure stability and performance on the water. Always check the manufacturer's specifications to find a kayak that meets your family's needs.

Tandem kayaks can be a great option for families with young children, as they provide extra stability and space for multiple paddlers. Many tandem models are designed to accommodate an adult and a child comfortably, allowing for a shared experience on the water. It's important to choose a kayak that offers secure seating and easy access for children, ensuring a safe and enjoyable outing. Additionally, some tandem kayaks have features that enhance comfort and convenience for family use.

Family kayaks are typically made from materials such as polyethylene, fiberglass, and inflatable PVC. Polyethylene is durable and resistant to impacts, making it suitable for recreational use, while fiberglass offers a lightweight option that enhances speed and maneuverability. Inflatable kayaks, made from PVC or similar materials, provide portability and ease of storage, making them convenient for family outings. The choice of material can influence the kayak's stability, weight capacity, and overall performance on the water.

To ensure comfort for all family members while kayaking, consider choosing a kayak with ample space and seating options that accommodate different body types. Look for features such as adjustable seats and backrests, which can enhance comfort during longer outings. Additionally, selecting a kayak with a stable design can help reduce the risk of discomfort caused by shifting or instability on the water. Bringing along cushions or padding can also provide extra support for a more enjoyable experience.

Family kayaks are versatile and can be used in various water conditions, making them suitable for different activities. In calm waters, such as lakes or slow-moving rivers, they are ideal for leisurely paddling and exploring scenic areas. For families looking for a bit more adventure, some kayaks can handle mild rapids or coastal waters, allowing for fun outings while ensuring safety and stability. Additionally, inflatable options are great for easy transport and storage, making them convenient for family trips to different water locations.

When choosing a kayak for family outings, consider the weight and size of the kayak, as these factors will affect transportability. Inflatable kayaks are often lighter and can be deflated for easy storage and transport, making them a convenient option for families. Additionally, look for kayaks with features like carrying handles or a compact design that facilitate easier loading and unloading. Finally, ensure that the kayak has enough space for your family members and any gear you plan to bring along.

When selecting a family kayak, consider features that enhance stability and ease of use, such as a wide hull design that helps prevent tipping. Look for kayaks with built-in safety handles for easy entry and exit, as well as secure seating arrangements to keep everyone safely in place. Additionally, consider models with multiple air chambers or buoyancy aids, which can provide extra security in case of an emergency. Lastly, ensure the kayak has adequate storage for safety gear, such as life jackets and signaling devices.
