The concept for the Air Max was first introduced at the 1978 Honolulu Marathon in Hawaii with a shoe known as the Tailwind. The Tailwind featured trapped air that created functional cushioning, but Nike Air engineers struggled to feature the trapped air in the design. In 1987 young architect turned shoe designer, Tinker Hatfield, cracked the design. Inspired by the Centre Pompidou, a modern art museum in Paris, Hatfield designed the Air Max 1 with visible air in the midsole, thus bringing forth one of Nike’s most iconic designs.

What makes the Air Max so special? It’s all in the air. The idea originated from Frank Rudy a NASA engineer who first captured high-density gasses in a urethane air bag. He then brought the idea to Nike in 1978 as a revolutionary cushioning concept. A blow molding process fills each air unit with dense gasses that can't leak from plastic. These units are then placed in the shoe’s midsole. These iconic air cushions provide support and comfort while enhancing performance and versatility. They are perfect for the athlete or for everyday use.

Runs Small
I bought these a couple of days ago and received them within the time frame given. The shoe is exactly how it appears however, it runs a bit small. I wear a 9.5 and would strongly suggest sizing up a half-size. My big toe had absolutely no wiggle room and thinking about wearing with an anklet or sock was out of the question.

Way Too Small To Get Foot Inside Opening
Did a pair of custom made shoes. They arrived today. Can’t even get my foot in the shoe, with no tongue or way to make them larger. The space is way too small.

Great Shoe
I love 270’s. Comfortable from the start. Great for wearing all day. I walk in and out to work. An hour & a half in total each day. I bought these new ones for my holidays. Expecting to walk a lot. Can’t go wrong with 270’s.
