When I 'm backpacking I 'll heat up my water directly in my jet boil, but I 'm delighted to know I have another option for backcountry boiling if I need it. One thing to be aware of: keep the handles positioned above the lid while boiling, they get hot. And since the lid is removable, I usually pour with my dominant hand and put a finger on the rubber part on the lid to hold it in place. Can be quite steamy while pouring it out, so watch your fingers!

The only pain point is there is no measuring label on top of the pour over but then it would probably be made of plastic. I got this one because I am worry having the parts that I put my mouth on exposed to the outside environment. I considered the quencher flip straw, but the top of the straw is still exposed when folded down. I also worry about mold gathering in the crevices. Let me tell you about the YETI Rambler 18oz—aka the Chuck Norris of drinkware. First off, this thing is built like a tank. Not a metaphorical tank. A literal tank. I accidentally dropped it down the stairs, and it didn ’ t even flinch. I, however, cried a little. My hardwood floor is now concave, and the YETI is somewhere laughing. Insulated? Oh, buddy. I put coffee in it at 7 AM. At 3 PM, I burned my tongue like a rookie. It ’s not a tumbler—it ’s a time capsule. Your drink goes in, and when it comes out, it's still the same temperature. Physics? Black magic? I do n't know. I ’ m not asking questions. Cold drinks? Forget about it. I left ice water in it overnight. Woke up, still ice. I 'm starting to think it ’s siphoning power from the sun just to spite thermodynamics. Design- wise, it ’s slick, minimalist, and screams “ I hike recreationally, but also emotionally. ” The lid is a screw- on chug cap, which is great if you like pretending you ’ re fueling up for a UFC fight every time you take a sip. Downsides? Only one: It ’s so loyal and indestructible that it ’s basically become part of my family. I bring it everywhere. I talk to it. I 'm 87% sure it judges me when I fill it with lukewarm Gatorade instead of the artisanal electrolyte nectar it deserves. Final verdict: 11/10. Buy it. Use it. Pass it down to your grandchildren. Made coffee every morning on the elk hunt. This French press is a must have! If you run the jet boil on high as soon as it starts to simmer start turning it off or it will boil over! Push down slow and stop before you get all the way down to the bottom so it doesn ’ t flex the seal out and let coffee by! It ’s probably best if you practice using it before you try in the woods!
