I love using this system and the ease of replacing the blades even when my fingers are bloody and half frozen. ... Works perfectly for my application but do n't see it working for much besides small precision
5
Awesome knife! I bought it cause I hate sharpening knives. I have to cut ropes and nylon straps through out my work day. Its just so nice to toss the blade and install a new in a matter of seconds. The blades last long and are incredibly sharp. My one complaint/ concern is where I can buy new blades.
5
cbreznau
Been using the vital for construction projects as I need a sharp edge more than a strong blade. Cuts everything from romex sheathing to ram board flooring protection... stays sharp better than utility blades.

Great knife. Skinned 2 see so far and have no complaints. Love this little knife.

I have used this knife to field dress two mule deer, three whitetail, a turkey, and several grouse and rabbits. I love using this system and the ease of replacing the blades even when my fingers are bloody and half frozen. I have n't had any issues with this knife yet, and neither have my brothers. I think those complaints about it breaking must be by people who are too heavy handed or something.
5
Dave Pickle
I was unsure that this Gerber could be all that. I used this knife for the first time this weekend and I was totally amazed how this little knife worked. I have to say that using this it in the field made my field dressing a snap. I would highly recommend this to anyone that wants a knife that works. GET YOURSELF ONE. THANKS GERBER,

5
I really like this knife. the handle is comfortable and the blade came from Gerber very sharp. so far it has held its edge very well and has n't required and sharpening. The knife is heavy compared to others I have at the same size but I like that substantial feeling and it is more difficult to flip compared to knives with a thumb stud but because of that the blade never gets hung up by the stud.

Scoutmaster-Paul
I recently purchased the new SCOUT Knife as a Christmas gift for my son, who has recently enlisted in the Army. This knife exceeded all our expectations. Its robust build and sleek design make it not only a practical tool but also a memorable keepsake. My son absolutely loved it! He mentioned how it brought back fond memories of our Boy Scout camping trips. This gift turned out to be more than just a piece of equipment; it sparked hours of conversation on Christmas Day, reminiscing about our past adventures and the special times we shared together. Gerber has not only delivered an outstanding product but also helped rekindle precious memories. Highly recommended for its quality and the wonderful nostalgia it brings!

5
I think Gerber decides to reward our loyalties ever few years when it comes out with a little GEM like this. The Zilch is a wonderful design, it's inexpensive and simple but it works. The detent works, centering is perfect, lock up is solid, no blade play, sturdy pocket clip, smooth opening and the flat ground drop point blade is awesome. No expensive handle materials or blade steel at this price point but I love carrying it all the same. I got the Red one but will probably get more in the different colors just because. I think the main comparison/competition to the Zilch would be the Dozier and the 112 Slim...... so if you like that style of knife but prefer a liner lock then maybe the Zilch is for you.
5
I wish the Zilch had been around when I was going through knifes. Very solid little knife for the money with full liner. May not be premium material, but for the price beautifully executed. I find the Zilch design both more aesthetic and functional than other knifes in its price range. I do n't know how it would hold up under the use I give a knife, but at its price it would be a tool I 'd use and replace when I broke or lost it. And I broke and lost a lot of knives that cost more. Gerber might just have the best in its class here.

The Salute Mini is somewhat of a misnomer for this knife. It is a very well built, well balanced, mid- sized lockback. It has an excellent blade profile for piercing as well as slicing. Dual, bronze pivot washers are rare at this price point. Nothing was really skimped on with superb knife except maybe the bead blast finish as opposed to satin polish. I ca n't comment on the black version other than my personal preference for silver blades. You 'd be hard pressed to find better quality and value than the Salute `` Mini ''. It's a no B. S., awesome EDC.

This knife was given to me as a gift in 2017, and I have confidently carried it every day since. This is a tool that I have depended on for countless and various jobs. Everything about this tool is perfect. From the blade to handle ratio, ambidextrous construction, lightweight glass fiber polymer, slim no nonsense design, to the firm feel of the liner lock and blade stop. the tolerance is so tight that there is no blade play out of the box. I do n't typically fall in love with a knife at first sight. However with this one I immediately had to buy it. If there was one thing I 'd change about it. I 'd have to say I 'd like to see it in an auto or spring assisted version. I 'd buy an auto pledge like time yesterday. Anyway that's my Ted talk. My favorite knife to date.
5
I got this knife on my birthday last month from my dad and I have not found one reason yet to live with out it. I cook with it I do yard work with it I cut rope you name it this knife does it and the last Gerber knife to me speechless was the strong arm but this knife it goes every where with me work taking a walk grocery shopping you name it.

I really like this knife's bigger brother, the Bugout and thought I would try this one, but it is too small for my large hands. I will not ding the knife for this, it is a personal preference and a simple fact that I have large hands. I did return it for that reason. I really like the knife and anyone who does n't have bear paws for hands will love this knife.

5
Let me be frank about this. Its one of the best knives under 20 dollers you can get.
5
I got this knife about 2 months ago and it's great. Razor sharp out of the box and it's super durable. It's got this secure feeling when you hold it. The locking mechanism is great too. It's a frame lock and is really easy to open and close.
5
I originally bought this knife at the base PX for training thinking it would be a cheap disposable. This has by far been the best knife purchase I could 've made. This knife got me through field training, serves me daily in the office, and even provided crucial help during a car accident by breaking a window and cutting through a seatbelt. If you need a knife that can do it all, I swear by this one. It's a simple and reliable tool that comes everywhere with me.
5
It is really light and eventually you start to master the art of closing it. Highly recommend, but only if you are willing to practice closing it cause it might take time to get used to.
5
This is a fantastic, cheap knife. It is easy to carry with you everyday and very practical.

5
Pramananda
The bottom line of this review is here at the top: I ’ m glad I bought this knife. Dick ’s took good care of me on the order. This model does what it ’s supposed to do; and it doesn ’ t do what it ’s not supposed to do. Now the details: 1. If you are looking for a self- defense knife, skip this knife and skip this review, because that ’s not what I bought it for. Anyway, nobody wins in a knife fight. 2. If you are looking for a superlative hunting knife, skip this knife and this review. The tip is not optimized for piercing, but it is not rounded enough to keep from tearing up a hide while skinning an animal. 3. If you are looking for a tactical knife with a black blade and serrated edges at the base, skip this knife and get one of the many made- in- China models that appeal to the macho image. 4. If you are looking for an EDC knife, the high price of this model may deter you from actually carrying it around every day; but Dick ’s did everything possible to make it more affordable, so maybe you& I will carry it around after all. 5. If you need a utility blade that opens with one hand, locks into an extremely light handle, has a thick, strong spine and a mostly- straight edge, a tip that won ’ t break off, tough as a cold chisel but sharp as a scalpel, then get this knife. Nothing else even comes close.

I had previously gotten knives for all my children- including extras... and their moms were jelly that they did n't have their own pocket knife. So these were gifts to go in with their new bogg bags. They were both very happy to have them. Gerber is always a good choice

Bought this primarily due to sale price as I got the key chain multi tool and knife for what just the multi tool runs on Amazon. Both are great. Knife is feather weight so good choice if wanting a 2. 5 ” blade that you don ’ t notice.

Bought knife in 2010 the knife has great edge retention very durable perfect edc And a great camping knife I droped the knife onto concrete once and bent the tip of the blade but sharpened it good and it was good as new. it is now 2014 and I figure I have used the knife about 500+ times and only had to sharpen it about 5 times
