This lantern is great for outdoor lighting when camping. It is very bright and lights easily; definitely worth the money!

These are the best propane lanterns our Boy scout troop has ever used. Parts are easy to get and change when necessary. I recommend coleman products across the board. We have tents that we have been using for 12 years and our twenty year old stoves are just now starting to be replaced. You can not go wrong with Coleman.

We like the propane/self lighting feature. Lantern is excellent. Will look at a stove using same fuel in the future.

Have used this product for many years... Really helpful with camping, easy to use.

5 Coleman is great
I always try to get Coleman products since I know them and they have always made a great product or given great customer service when the product broke. This is a great easy to use lantern and brings me back to my Scouting days. I however only went to Dick's because I had a gift card, as usual I found the same product cheaper elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions For Coleman Backpacking Lantern

When selecting a backpacking lantern, consider its weight and size for easy transport, as well as its brightness output to ensure adequate illumination for your campsite. Look for features such as adjustable brightness settings, fuel type, and burn time to match your outdoor needs. Additionally, durability and weather resistance are important for withstanding various outdoor conditions. A lantern with a built-in handle or hanging capability can also enhance its usability in different settings.

When choosing the right brightness for a backpacking lantern, consider the intended use and the size of your camping area. Lanterns typically measure brightness in lumens, with higher lumens providing more light. For general campsite illumination, a lantern with around 200 to 400 lumens is often sufficient, while more intense lighting may be needed for larger spaces or specific tasks. Additionally, think about battery life and the lantern's weight, as these factors can impact your overall backpacking experience.

Backpacking lanterns typically use a variety of fuel types, including propane, butane, and white gas. Some models are designed to run on rechargeable batteries, providing a convenient and eco-friendly option. Each fuel type has its own advantages, such as weight, burn time, and brightness, allowing users to choose based on their specific needs and preferences for outdoor adventures.

Yes, there are lightweight options available for backpacking lanterns. Many models are designed specifically for portability, making them easy to carry during outdoor adventures. These lanterns often feature compact designs and use materials that minimize weight while still providing adequate illumination. When selecting a lantern, consider the balance between weight, brightness, and fuel type to suit your backpacking needs.

The duration a backpacking lantern can last on a single fuel source varies based on the type of fuel used and the lantern's design. Many lanterns can provide light for several hours, with some models lasting up to 12 hours or more on a full tank. Factors such as brightness settings and environmental conditions can also influence burn time. It's important to check the specifications of the lantern for more precise information on fuel efficiency.

Using a lantern while backpacking offers several advantages over other light sources. Lanterns provide a broader area of illumination, making it easier to light up a campsite or cooking area, which is especially useful for group settings. They are typically more stable and can be placed on the ground or hung, allowing for hands-free use while you set up your gear or prepare meals. Additionally, many lanterns are designed to be lightweight and portable, making them convenient for carrying on long hikes.

Backpacking lanterns are designed to be versatile and can typically be used in various weather conditions. Many models are built to withstand light rain and wind, making them suitable for outdoor adventures. However, it's important to check the specific features of each lantern, as some may offer better resistance to the elements than others. Always ensure that the lantern is used in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines for optimal performance.

When choosing a backpacking lantern, consider features that enhance safety during use. Look for lanterns with stable bases to prevent tipping and those that are designed to withstand outdoor conditions. Additionally, features like cool-touch exteriors can help prevent burns, while built-in safety shut-off mechanisms can provide peace of mind. Opting for lanterns with adjustable brightness settings can also help manage light output for different situations.

When choosing the right size lantern for your backpacking trip, consider the weight and compactness of the lantern, as these factors are crucial for portability. Look for lanterns that provide adequate brightness for your needs, typically measured in lumens, while also being easy to pack. Additionally, think about the duration of your trip and how long you need the lantern to last on a single fuel source or battery charge. Opt for a size that balances illumination with convenience for your specific outdoor activities.

LED backpacking lanterns are typically more energy-efficient, providing longer run times and brighter illumination without the need for fuel. They are lightweight and often feature adjustable brightness settings, making them versatile for various camping situations. In contrast, traditional fuel-based lanterns use propane or other fuels, which can offer a warmer light and are often favored for their reliability in extreme conditions. However, they require careful handling and refueling, which can be less convenient than the plug-and-play nature of LED options.
