I was skeptical of the modern, thin, down jackets and vests. I ’ ve loved my old style, bulky down vests, and had full faith in the warmth of down. The Outdoor Research Helium Down Vest has become a daily part of my kit working at a ski area. The cut is definitely very athletic or snug, which does make it amazing for layering over. I ’ m normally somewhere between a large and extra large, the XL fits much closer to a large than a XL. While not the most flattering for fashion wear, but it ’s perfect for how warming layers are meant to be worn. Generally I ’ ll wear this vest over my base layer and under my other mid layer.
