I practiced assembling the kayak twice in my apartment, then took it out to a lake for the real test. Still had to check my notes, so it took me 15- 20 minutes to assemble. Once I got it in the water, it was wonderful. There were strong gusts of wind, as well as a steady breeze, but had no trouble making a straight heading to wherever I wanted to go. Wish I had gotten one of these kayaks sooner.

[ I 'm very impressed with my new Bay ST kayak. I 've been canoeing and kayaking all my live( I 'm 62) and have a good deal of experience in all types of paddle craft in all types of conditions. For its length and width, I 'd put the Bay ST in the top of its size category. The boat is surprisingly stiff and responsive, easy to paddle with high or low paddle angles, tracks well with moderate strokes, turns easily and tightly in a lean, and is very comfortable. All of this from a corrugated plastic folding boat that only weighs 26 pounds! Amazing. I 'm impressed with this little kayak and am eager to put it to the test in big water( with a spray skirt).

We took our Oru Kayaks out of the box on the shore of String Lake, Grand Teton NP, with directions in hand and gathering onlookers anticipating the final form of our clever unfolding. The first attempt was frustrating. I might have said a swear word or two. However, the second kayak emerged more easily and lacked the initial assembly drama. Those interested in our maiden voyage were delighted to see how light the boats were and how easily we launched them. After sliding into the water, my first stroke shot the boat forward and I knew I was in for a great day of paddling. My wife and I simultaneously commented about how easily the boats paddled and how responsive they were. As a side note, thank you very much for supplying a decent paddle in your package. It paddled as well as my trusty Werner paddle and broke down better. The first test came at the north end of String Lake where we had to portage the boats a quarter mile to Leigh Lake. At 26 pounds apiece, we easily carried both Oru boats together. On a previous trip to this same destination, we carried 65 pound plastic kayaks individually over the portage, which means we walked a mile with more weight, instead of a quarter mile with lighter Oru boats. Paddling Leigh Lake was a dream. Even in light chop from an afternoon gust, the Oru Kayaks paddled great! Our heavier, plastic ocean kayaks totally out perform the Oru kayaks on our home waters of Monterey Bay, but they don ’ t come close to the convenience, compact storage, and light weight we need for packing in our trailer and heading out to lakes in the northwest. The best part: I didn ’ t buy have to buy a kayak rack for the cab of my truck, which my wife isn ’ t tall enough to reach anyway, for two folding kayaks that fit snugly in the truck bed. Thank you for a pair of really fun kayaks. More adventures to follow…

I love my Oru Bay ST because it has allowed a Manhattanite with a subcompact car to finally get back on the water in a routine way. I didn ’ t think I ’ d ever be able to own a kayak, but now my wife and I own 3, and can fit them( and 3 kayakers) in our car and get out on the water. The Bay ST is much easier to put together than the original Bay, which is a big relief after struggling with the old model.

[ This is a great invention. It is so easy to store, transport, assemble, navigate, and dissemble. I immediately got the second one so that I can enjoy it with my friends. Took my Oru Inlet for its first run. I had to wait for the ice to melt enough( Northeast Connecticut). I am very impressed. It was easy to assemble and disassemble and was extremely maneuverable on the water.

The Inlet is great fun to paddle on small inland lakes and rivers. It takes up very little space when folded, and is quick and easy for one person to set up. One tiny nit to pick: the bulkheads are a little tricky to position. I ’ ve marked the bottoms of mine with dots to help align them, and it would be helpful for the setup instructions to be clearer about where the tops of the bulkheads should line up. Perhaps alignment marks could be added to the skin at both top and bottom. I am very happy with this boat.

After a few years of looking and thinking and being a bit concerned about the price, I finally decided which kayak I wanted- and then which Oru model made the most sense. I had originally thought I wanted the Bay for the closed sitting area, but went with the Inlet. My use will be less `` sporty '' and more recreational and the open area seemed fine. I have now taken her on her maiden voyage at a small lake near me. I first spent the time needed to figure out how to put her together in my living room. When I did it for the first time on the beach, it took under 5 minutes and less than that to take it apart. My 30 minute paddle on the lake was fun. The Inlet was very stable. I did drip water into the boat when paddling, but it was a warm day and felt good and was not enough that my seat got wet. I 'm excited to do more paddling. I can see that the cost is what one pays for light weight, portability, and ease of assembly. I 'm ok with that. I 'll be able to play with this model for many years to come.

The inlet kayak I bought is even better than I was expecting.. it is so light and agile in the water and seriously takes only a couple minutes to put together and fold back up after I have enjoyed my paddle. I also bought the light paddle and the splash guard that besides adding drip protection from the paddle is adds a classy look to my new kayak. So happy that I indulged and bought it..

You can ’ t beat it. It trails amazing. Turning is a bit hard than the 10 XT. So many accessories and options on the kayak and a very comfortable seat. Very stable kayak and a large cockpit. It is so relaxing to have your legs out over the kayak and seat all the way back. Also, if you ’ re like me that likes to do overnight camping, kayak will supply you with all that room. And it ’s not only perfect for that, it perfect for just an hour on the water. You get what you paid for. So If you ’ re looking for a kayak that is easy to paddle, vapor is way to go. If you ’ re looking at getting 8 or 10 or 12 XT all the same except the length.

Was walleye fishing on a large bowl shaped lake known for rough water. I paddled out to a point and started catching walleye. The wind came up and the 14- 16 ’ v bottom aluminum boats headed for the marina. I paddled out for another drift. I didn ’ t head in until I took a wave over the side and thought maybe that was enough. Great, stable kayaks! I have a Vapor 10 as well. Building a farm pond on my property this fall. First time trying out my new Vapor 12 Angler that I actually bought for my 12 YO Grandson on a local lake to see how it handled in the 20 mph wind. Funny thing, side wind wanted to push the stern and not the high profile bow. Tracked well with a tail wind and into the wind. Slides easily through the water reasonably fast with no fatigue. He likes over night Kayak camping on the quiet slow to medium flow streams in the area and I see this as having plenty of room for his gear. His take on it, He loves it and had no trouble with the side wind pushing the stern, might be because of his lighter weight Ample room for my 6' 2 '' 185 lb frame. Seat adjust, modest thigh/knee pads plus moving the drain plug to the bow rather than the gunnel are very good. Very nice kayak for the money. Four stars for the stern slipping in the wind. Would buy again

Being 6 ’ 4 ”( 170 lbs) with 36 ” inseam legs and size 14 feet, I was worried. But after trying the Beach LT out on a lake for 2 hours( 5- 6 miles), I ’ m happy with the comfortable fit with plenty of room and adjustment range left for taller people. Compared to my similar sized conventional kayak( Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120) the Beach LT is a bit faster. But it also tracks less well and is more tippy due to the more v- shaped bottom. Small prices to pay for the easy transport advantages.

[ Hello! I bought my original Oru a little over 3 years ago, and this past summer I got stuck on a submerged log and but the time I was able to get off it, I had created a hole in the bottom of the kayak! I tried to repair it, but have not yet had success. I ’ m going to keep trying! When I saw your sale of 30% off with a free paddle, I took advantage and purchased a new Beach LT! [ We purchased the Beach Sport kayak for the ability to bring Tippi, our Golden Doodle along with us! We had our maiden voyage in Alamitos Bay, and paddled around Naples Canals in Long Beach California! Tippi loved it and got her sea legs going fine! We love to include her in our adventures, and the other Kayaks did not have room for her. The boat felt stable and solid for paddling in the nice calm bay. My husband paddled Mombo( the name for the new black kayak). I paddled his Coast xt — that one is a pain to assemble,( compared to my Bay ST), but the paddle is sweet and fast. My Bay St started leaking, which is also what spurred the new purchase. I paddled much more than my husband, so the Coast is in pretty good shape — but I noticed a little compromise on one of the folding corners! I might need to repair it before it leaks. We are looking forward to more adventures soon! Thank you for building these wonderful kayaks. Wendy

My husband and I purchased this after experiencing a tandem kayak for the first time while on a cruise. At first I thought it would be difficult to paddle as a team but it was the most fun we 've had in awhile! The Perception Rambler has a bit of weight to it but between the two of us we can easily carry it to the water. The seats were surprisingly comfortable for a long paddle session and the it was a sturdy ride. It was super easy to maneuver through the water. This inflatable kayak has worked well to paddle in our creek and out to the river with my son or daughter. I am careful to avoid downed trees or anything that could puncture it. We also plan to use it in the ocean and intracoastal. My 9yr old son fully inflated and assembled it by himself. It comes with 2 seats, 2 paddles, pump, repair kit, fins, and a nice zippered storage bag. While it is easy to setup, it does take some time and should be noted that there are a lot of parts to keep up with and the once inside the bag it is quite heavy and large to store or transport. For one person, it takes about 15 minutes to deflate and packup and bw 30- 45min to set up the first few times.

It's fast, agile, stable, adaptable, and very customizable. The drill plates are really nice! But my favorite thing about the bigwater, the PDL drive in combo with that sleek, narrow hull! The Bigwater truly is a beast but can really get moving out on the water. I 've been able to pedal it, bow into the wind and still hit 4mph- 4. 2mph! That's great for a kayak! It's hull just eats waves too. The bow has a narrow point that is designed to split waves, make it easier for the kayak to keep moving through those conditions and I ca n't tell you how nice it is to have that feature being a trout troller up in the Rocky Mountains, dealing with wind waves, chop, and heavy wind. Other all, the Old Town Bigwater PDL 132 is the perfect kayak that gives you all of the features to be an amazing fishing platform but gives you that unique kayaking experience with it's narrow hull! I 'd always recommend the bigwater!

[ Love how stable and comfortable this kayak is on the water!! Handles rough water well and makes me feel safe on the water. It ’s my go- to fishing kayak and can keep up with all the fishing and catching I like to do. Pretty sure it comes with good luck too!

[ I bought this kayak about 8 months ago and really waited to provide accurate feedback. This is a great solid kayak, very fast and stable. I have been out in saltwater with high winds, swells and can still stand on this no problem. I have had many great adventures and caught countless fish and made many new kayak friends. Highly recommend this kayak to anybody interested. Easy to add on extras as well.

More time to fish
I had an old aluminum canoe that had been a great fishing canoe, but at 86 pounds I could no longer handle it. The Pelican Catch Classic 100 weighs only 58 pounds and slides easily on and off my truck. Plus, I 've already caught a lot of fish. I use a seat cushion that adds about 3 inches to the chair of the kayak and puts me up a bit higher. The kayak is great for about 2- 2. 5 hours of fishing. I have n't had it out in much wind yet, but it handles pretty well.

This is the second boat I have purchased after buying one last year for my son. The boat is highly rated and did a lot of homework before buying. We use this to fish back bay fishing and crabbing. It's a great stable boat and you get a lot for the price point. It's also easy to load since it's only 10 feet long making it a lot lighter than larger boats.

I bought my 106pdl in 2022. This kayak is a beast, I ocean fish in some pretty nasty conditions, wind, waves and tides and I have not had one bad experience. This year I 've added a 55lb trolling motor directly behind the seat to increase my range and tide planning. Do n't hesitate if you are serious about a solid boat, not one issue yet and I use this yak..

[ I have no complaints. This kayak is super stable on the water and can turn very quickly. It has plenty of room for what I bring with me. I ’ m a 5 ’ 11 ”, 215lb man and have no problem with stability. I can easily cast and set the hook on a fish standing up.
5
I spent about a year and a half living in a downtown apartment with a parking garage. I got into a PDL 106 because I could store it hanging out the back of my truck bed and still park in the garage. This kayak has all the stability and most of the space compared to a Bigwater PDL but even more maneuverability. It is a little bit slower than other PDL models but I have no problem maintaining 3mph, even into the wind. I used this kayak as my main tournament rig for two seasons, a handful of B. O. S. events and many local Oklahoma events. This kayak is the perfect compact tournament platform for those that do n't want to trailer a huge kayak. Its very easy to get on to a kayak cart and move around. The PDL drive is amazing and of course has now been proven to be the most reliable pedal drive on the market. I ca n't think of a better pedal fishing kayak that anyone can easily throw in the back of a pickup.

I purchased my Inlet for my 70th birthday, the first time I put it together was in my gazebo. Piece of cake. My maiden paddle was not full of grace. Getting in I sat on the back of the seat, getting out I nearly broke my hip. I must have looked a aight. Fearing I might have to return it, I watched a few videos to see how I could be more successful. A couple of weeks ago I went on a 10 mile river paddle. It was wonderful. I had absolutely no problem getting in or out. My Inlet is the best. Light weight, easy to put together, easy to clean and store. I 'm so happy I did this for myself.

Bought this and a Pacer for my boys' birthdays. Tried them out for the first time today. Good times! The Kokanee is quite stable. It's a little heavy and bulky on land, but handled easily enough by two people. Handles well in the water. I purchased padded seat bottoms, as I was told a long trip would be uncomfortable without them. Only complaint I can possible come up with is it was missing a couple small parts.
5

I have not used the kayak yet. I bought it early and have been waiting for it to warm up. I am hoping to use it in May. So far it is exactly what I had expected after looking at it online. Like I said, I have n't used it yet but I am kind of wishing there was an upgraded seat available, but I knew that when I bought it.

BeeBee
We have owned this kayak for almost 8 years. Aside from the seat back and clips that attach it eventually breaking, we have had zero problems. I contacted customer service and they had a shipment( at no cost to us) in the mail within 24 hours with replacement parts. Myself and multiple of my children use this kayak for summer fun and fishing. I love using it with my toddlers because it is SO stable, you almost can not turn it over even if you wanted to. Excellent for a family style kayak adventure on the lake, or those who prefer more stability. We have even taken this one to the ocean twice and used for fishing, it withstands the waves and proved very useful for dropping bait. Only downside that comes with the stability, of course, is it is quite heavy to move. Luckily, ours does not go far.

This isnt an inexpensive kayak but you get more than what you pay for in a stabile one person fishing craft that is packed with good features. Are the flaws? Sure there are some things they might want to consider such as the raised track handles put quit a bit on leverage on the hull but having those tracks there opens up all kinds of possibilities. This was my first yak and I ca n't imagine I could have bought any better this boat is as much fun as it is functional. One suggestion for future models is a sucken battery well to lower the center of gravity a bit and to help keep the battery in place.

I own one for the last 3 years. This is my preferred paddle to any trip, to cover distance on flat water, or for white water. It is light, the angles can be adjusted to break wind resistance, it provide good grip and the shaft is slightly ovalled. It is durable and easy to transfer in a car as it is built out of 2 pieces. It has a hook catch and water drip caps that are very useful. A small downside is the the paddles blade reinforcement that Pelican designed with only one narrow stripe. BTW, the Pelican warranty deserves a good review, I had an issue and it was addressed in a quick and efficient way. In total, I am buying a second one to the partner I will paddle with in my tandem kayak.

I purchased this seat in hopes that it would give me a little more support than the original seat in my kayak. I did n't even remove the old seat. I just inflated the lumbar back( fabulous) I must say and sat it in the kayak over the original seat. The new seat is a little higher on my back and the lumbar area gives me the support for a very comfortable ride. I have had back surgery in the low back area and when I would spend time on the water, I always had back pain. I tried flotation cushions to raise me up higher or behind me to give additional support. Now that I have this particular seat I no longer have to put any additional padding anywhere. I am so glad to have found this seat. Now I can kayak for any amount of time I want. Great buy, great price, for such a remarkable cushion.

I use this trailer for my 12' fishing kayak. Buying American has many advantages, in particular that the build instructions are in English and easy to understand. The directions walk you through everything and the pictures are excellent shots of the steps. It took me over 4 hours to put it together, but I 'm a 54 yr/old woman!

I am just completing the assembly. Was surprised how quickly it arrived since I chose the free ground shipping. The instruction manual is easy to follow and assembly has been easy so far. The trailer seems to be well designed and the materials are sturdy and carefully manufactured. No missing holes, extra pieces or special tools needed.

Was easy to install. Be sure to read the instructions. There are adjustment screws you need to use for a snug fit. Loaded easily before my paddle. After a few hours of paddling, I did not have the strength to get the kayak back on. I am a big, strong guy. My kayak is only 68 pounds. Thought I could do it. Fortunately, someone came along and pushed it right up for me. I an going to try it again with the bow rope looped up around the carrier bar. Otherwise, I will only be taking it where I know I can get some help loading.

I love this rack! Easy to load and unload your kayak from and easy to strap it down. It's very solid and my kayak does n't move when traveling at 65 mph. No bow or stern tie straps are even necessary when going short distances at 55- 60 mph. My kayak lies flat and does n't allow the wind to push my vehicle while traveling. Compared to other kayak carriers it is also very affordable. I would definitely recommend this rack.

When selecting a flatwater kayak, consider factors such as the kayak's length and width, which can affect stability and speed. Additionally, think about the weight capacity and storage options if you plan to carry gear. The material of the kayak also plays a role in durability and performance on calm waters.
Flatwater kayaks are ideal for a variety of activities, including leisurely paddling on lakes, rivers, and calm coastal waters. They are also great for fishing, exploring, or simply enjoying a day on the water. Their design typically allows for easy maneuverability and stability, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers.
The materials used in flatwater kayaks can significantly impact their weight, durability, and performance. Common materials include polyethylene, which is durable and affordable, and fiberglass, which is lighter and offers better performance. Understanding these materials can help you choose a kayak that meets your needs for both recreational use and longevity.
Recreational flatwater kayaks are designed for stability and ease of use, making them perfect for beginners and casual paddlers. In contrast, performance kayaks are typically longer and narrower, designed for speed and efficiency, catering to more experienced paddlers looking for a challenge. Knowing the differences can help you select the right kayak for your paddling style.
Yes, flatwater kayaks are generally suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced paddlers. Their stable design and ease of handling make them accessible for those new to kayaking, while more experienced paddlers can enjoy the versatility and performance they offer. It's important to choose a model that matches your comfort level and intended use.
