Light weight and easy to use. This is a great tool for some one that goes back country camping and requires a light and easy to use tool.

Purchased this for use camping. Used primarily to split cut wood into kindling sticks for camp fire. It was solid, lightweight and held its edge beautifully. For such a small and very inexpensive hand axe it proved itself to be a great tool. With a sturdy canvas cover for the axe head and proper care I do n't see why this product will need to be replaced for years. Coghlan's Pack Axe is a terrific addition to my camping equipment and would recommend it for a variety of uses.

Hatchet has a good feal and swing to it. It is weighted just right. Only complaint is that it could stand to be a little sharper.

[ I bought 5 hatchets for the men in my family. They are easy to handle and solidly built. They maintain a sharp edge. A good company to buy from and a great hatchet.

[ I bought the Hults Bruk Almike last month for a lightweight, light duty hatchet that would fit in my pack and this one fits all of these needs. Cuts great. It is super sharp, so watch yourself! I like the cover. No snaps!

Freed
[ Super sharp out of the box and feels real nice in hand and in swing. Haven ’ t used it in the field proper yet, but did find a few things to chop and whittle in the back yard, preformed well. As you may already know Hults Bruk reputation at this point precedes itself, so feel confident about the investment. Came with some lame government warning printed on, I lightly scraped that thing off, I don ’ t need no stinking warning on my hatchet!

[ I bought this as a sample of what Hults Bruk can do in order to compare to my Gransfor Bruk small forest axe. Obviously this one is smaller, but Hults Bruk axes seem to be more readily available in the States. Quality is comparable and prices between similar models seem to be lower on average than GB axes. Unfortunately, I 've yet to use this hatchet, but so far I 'd give it a strong recommend to anyone interested in a high quality axe. A few additional notes: fit and finish are great. Good fit between the head and handle; no serious or worrisome gaps. The handle is smooth and has a comfortable shape. Edge comes sharp and is fairly even on both sides. Exactly what I 'd expect from something in this price range.

I picked one of these up in 2012 to use as a backpacking hatchet and over 12 years later, it ’s never left my pack. It was one of my first pieces of gear and is officially my oldest piece of gear that I regularly use. Plus, if you get bored at the campsite, you can throw it at a log. It is a tomahawk after all.

The Huntsman
I bought this as a Christmas gift for our grandson who is away at college. I like the weight of the Hawk and the way the blade is made. A sleek, extremely fast tool or weapon. The FastHawk is terrific! Thus the 5 stars.

I love the build of this axe. It's a heavier than the super lightweight touring axes like the Petzel Gully but imo gives you more stability and is easier to plunge while climbing couloirs and steep terrain. Solid weight to be able to self arrest too.

A hiking axe is primarily used for various outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and mountaineering. It can assist in tasks such as chopping wood for campfires, clearing trails, or providing stability on steep terrain. Additionally, some hiking axes are designed for specific uses like ice climbing or snow traversing.
When selecting a hiking axe, consider the weight, length, and material of the axe head and handle. A lightweight axe is easier to carry on long hikes, while a durable head made from high-quality steel can enhance performance. Also, look for features like a comfortable grip and a balanced design for better control.
Yes, there are several types of hiking axes designed for different activities. General-purpose axes are suitable for camping and light chopping, while specialized axes, like ice axes, are tailored for climbing and traversing icy terrains. Understanding the intended use will help you choose the right type for your needs.
Choosing the right size hiking axe depends on your height, strength, and the type of activities you plan to undertake. A longer axe provides more leverage for chopping, while a shorter axe is easier to maneuver in tight spaces. It's important to find a size that feels comfortable and allows for effective use.
Hiking axes are typically made from a combination of steel and wood or composite materials. The axe head is often made of high-carbon steel for durability and edge retention, while the handle can be crafted from lightweight woods or synthetic materials for strength and reduced weight. These materials contribute to the overall performance and longevity of the axe.
Yes, many hiking axes are designed to be effective in winter conditions, especially those intended for mountaineering or ice climbing. They provide stability and support on snow and ice, making them essential for navigating challenging winter terrains. However, it's important to select an axe specifically designed for such conditions to ensure safety and effectiveness.
